Back to your question.....Europe is a great place to visit and with a strong US dollar, a great bargain. For your first trip, I would recommend going with a tour group. They will pack your schedule with lots of variety, and you get some of your own time to explore as well. They take away the stress of finding hotels, restaurants, and determining the "important" sites to see. You will probably find a favorite location, which you can return to on another vacation!

I understand how people who have to travel constantly would not want to travel again for a vacation. But this gentlemen has not had to do that and wants to see the world. How about telling him some of the places you feel he should see, even if you don't necessarily want to go back there yourself?

My wife and I take a vacation every evening, spring summer and fall. We live in the country and we go out on the back porch and set. Back porch setting is an art. You have to develop your art until you can see new things every day even though you are in the same place. Many can't reach the higher levels of the art and get bored and quit but if you work at it you to can develop your art until back porch setting is a vacation that you can take even when you only have a little bit of time. Of course the talk part of back porch setting is important too. The back porch is no place for long or stressful talks. Here a few light words at a time with plenty of pauses in between work the best. It takes a lot of time to perfect your art but with a lot of effort it is a wonderful relaxing vacation just outside your door. Ed

Some of you will think I am joking, but if you too practice your art of back porch setting you will see that what I say is true.

I like this a lot. Someday there will be time... Right? :irked:

Same here...but just 10 years in the Navy for me (and I do kick my *** for leaving!).
Been around the world twice...lived in Italy two years...saw the Acropolis the last year it was totally open to the public. Been to 'Po city!!! (Mark will know that one!!!).
Wife moved around the country a lot before we got married...I didn't move often, but got around to most of the states east of the Mississippi.
So, now our vacations are the "back porch' type as described in a previous post

Vacation is a must!!! I love to see new places, experience new things and see for myself places that I've read about. History is a lot of fun, especially when you see the actual place it happened. I also love wildlife and hunting, so a hunting trip somewhere in the world is a great vacation, or just going to a place full of wildlife that we can photograph is great!!!

Since you mentioned Europe, I think the easiest, most affordable trip you can take with the best results is a cruise. I always thought they where too expensive for me to consider, but then several friends did it and I got to looking online at the different websites and realized it was something very doable. My wife and I went in the spring of 2016. The cruise started in Venice Italy, then down to Croatia, Greece, Turkey and then up the other side of Italy with 4 stops, then France and ended in Spain. The best part was that every morning we woke up in a new place except the two days we where at sea. Those where resting days where we hung out at the pool, watched movies and did laundry. For us, a full day of exploring a new city was plenty. We researched what we wanted to see, and felt we had more then enough time to enjoy it.

For a fun road trip, week long getaway, Yellowstone and then drive across to Mt Rushmore is one of those trips I like to do over and over again. I think I've done it five times now, and my wife is talking about wanting to go again sometime soon!!!

For our Honeymoon, we decided to go on a hunting safari to South Africa. She just got into hunting and wanted to see what it would be like. Then after we finished two weeks of chasing animals, we spent a few days at Addo Elephant Park taking pictures of them.

For just a relaxing, do nothing and get to see some neat places, cruises are awesome. I've been on three of them now, including that one in Europe. It's just a half day drive to the port, so everyone seems to go on a cruise around here.

While I feel that I live in my dream vacation home and setting, I love planning and researching new places to see. We haven't decided where our next trip will be. Karen is talking about another cruise sometime soon, but she also wants to see Alaska. Maybe a cruise to Alaska? We also want to do what we are calling a castle tour in Eastern Europe and just explore different castles in as many places as we have time for.

If you are thinking about a cruise, I've found that Cruise One is just about the best source to find them. They are a travel agency that lists all, or at least, most of the cruise lines and what they have to offer. We've booked two cruses with them, and we bought Karen son a cruise for his honeymoon through them. You get the best prices for the cruise, plus upgrades that they have that you wont get booking it on your own.

If you want to just fly somewhere and stay at a resort, I always start my search with https://www.priceline.com/home/?lrdr=secure and then try to find a better price on other sites. Used to be that it was hit or miss which site had the best price, but over the last couple of years, Priceline has been the best that I've been able to find for everything from hotels, car rentals and airfare.

Floating down a river in the Rocky Mountains with a fly rod in my hands. Nothing soothes the soul more than clear cold water over ageless river rocks.

We camp in a 5th wheel camper. My favorite locations are the small family owned campgrounds in or around Townsend and Wears Valley, TN.

Love to travel to see this beautiful country. I have been to the lower 48 states via car. Took 36 years to see them all, we would spend 3-6 weeks traveling each year, most times during the summer to take my 2 daughters with us. My kids are weird they would rather see different states then go to amusement parks ( we have been to both Diseny parks). I got the travel bug from my parents in 1969 we took a 3 week car trip from NJ to CA saw Yellowstone, Texas, LA, was some trip. I was in Detroit when they landed on the moon. We have been to Italy and England. Also been to most of the Canadian provinces. Hawaii and Alaska are on our list now that we are retired. We would decide during December where we wanted to go, planning takes place in January and February, hotels booked in March travel in the summer. Basically everything east of the Mississippi River was via minivan, everything west was fly to a state an then drive 2000-3000 miles in big loops to get all the stuff. In 2007 we flew to San Diego and drove to Vancouver BC , took us a month, what a trip.
