Girls and guns

Why?? Our friend from Canada was just answering the original posters suggestion to start your kid's gun training early. Is it your opinion if someone disagrees with your point of view it is "political" speech?

If this thread was in the Friendly Politics forum...no problem with his post. The topic of the thread is Girls and Guns....and I don't want to see another good thread shut down.

It is actually CFP (Concealed Firearms Permit) on the issued permit. CCW (conceal carry weapon) permit is slang around here. I'm glad you were just "fun-in" because I was starting to think you were not a true Texan to be that far off on your guess. :) A while back it passed the state Legislature that we don't need a CFP here in Utah but our partially liberal governor vetoed it. Utah is still right up there with most lenient gun laws.

In Texas it's CHL or Concealed Handgun License and they even notate if you are a military veteran. To qualify for CHL we are required to take a class, pass a test, demonstrate fire arm proficiency, get finger printed, and pass background checks by both Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) and FBI. A close friend was denied due to a DWI in college 20 years ago.

If stopped, by law enforcement, we are required to show both TDL and CHL.

As stated, today open carry is legal in Texas, for CHL holders. From my personal perspective, I will continue to carry concealed.

Now ....... Back to Girls & Guns!

The opening poster did make a statement "those of you with younger kids, I would encourage you to start them as early as you feel they're responsible enough to handle it" and the man only responded by saying no thank you because he did not want his kids to rely on guns. How do you make that to be political?

Surely my point of view in #85 was more political than his. Yet because I said I was pro gun it stood without comment or complaint. Your attitude unfortunately is what turns a lot of people against guns and gun owners - and I might add, US gun owners in particular. You did not do us any good by trying to shut up somebody who is against us. I think it is essential that everybody realises that the wider world opinion does matter, even if it cannot at present affect us as gun owners. That opinion will eventually get through to some politicians. Best to simply ignore something we disagree with.

You did not do us any good by trying to shut up somebody who you think is against us, but probably is ambivalent. I think it is essential that everybody realises that the wider world opinion does matter, even if it cannot at present affect us as gun owners. That opinion will eventually get through to some politicians. Best to simply ignore something we disagree with.

Why? This subject has to be kept in the open. I am not trying to stir up trouble, but exactly the opposite. I have valued my right to be able to have guns in four different countries. The more gun owners try to shut down any semblance of opposition, the more likely we are to lose that right. We have to show understanding of the opposite point of view and try to show them we are sensitive caring people just the same as they are.

I am sure most of you folks in the US are not aware how much trouble you are causing in other countries that at present at least tolerate gun ownership. The mass killings, and other statistics coming out of the US are having a bad effect on gun owners in other countries.

Old McDonald, the problem we are having with being nice to the hoplophobes is that is what got us in the situation we are in now. The Anti-gun people want to end Gun violence, which is something the media has made up because guns don't cause violence, people do. They don't care about the total violence, So they are find with other forms of violence and want to outlaw self defense. the other problem is the figures that the media are using for gun deaths are misleading at best. They are including lawful self defense shootings, and police shooting in there statistics.

How do you put up a defense from the people against gun ownership, when they won't believe the crime statistics put out by their own government. They have even accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of getting there crime statistics from the National Rifle Association.

OldMcDonald, I and I'm sure many others value your opinion, I've quoted you on occasion, I "think" the only issue is that to have or continue a discussion in the direction headed, it will be moved by the moderators to "Friendly Politics". Many members don't choose to sign up for access.

I have access, but often don't post there anymore.
