Didn't really give a 700 much thought, might have to do some Summit shopping to see what's out there..Thanks.

Be careful as to what year 700R you'd get, if you decide. The early ones had some alleged strength issues. That's all pretty much laid out in any forums you search for on that tranny. But if you get one from some tranny shop, speed shop, etc... all that should be taken care of with newer, stronger parts. ;)

I hear you, I had an '83 S-10 2wd Blazer with one of the first 700R4's and I had it out so many times that I could do it alone in 30 minutes. Not a skill I aspired to but what is a working college kid to do..The race car tranny guy I took it to the last time figured out what GM did wrong, for giggles I put in a B&M Transpak...That little underpowered 2.8 could chirp a great posi second with a little gas. That got some attention back then. And that's with a set of 275/60/15 radials.

I have one in a 1985 4wd 1/2 ton that died on us around 1997. I had it rebuilt but parked the truck after 4000 miles because we had another child and needed something that sat 4. So it sits in the back yard waiting to be harvested for our 71 Toyota LandCruiser V8 swap some day. WHEN? Some day! :confused3:

Fast is good but only if it can turn and stop.

Well it sure does help if it can!
We live on street with 15% grade that our front window looks out on. Makes for interesting watching/entertainment when the roads get slippery. Don't see many of the pony cars or two wheel PU's get to the top despite the noise they make.

I did my '67 swap in 2001 when there wasn't a lot of available equipment and wiring for such swaps, nowadays its simple.

When I first got my license used my brother's 1965 GTO. It had studded snows and 300 lbs of steel weight plates in the trunk. No handling or braking to speak of but it sure would march!

Don't overlook the 200 4 R either, if you're going non electronic control, some of those Grand Nationals have well north of 500 lb ft of torque at the rear wheels, running built 200's.

The TH200R4 and the early TH700R4 were closely related. Built one up for my GN. The primary weakness was soft weak stator splines. The pump vanes were updated and the oil pressure control/relief valve improved.
