If you are driving it any distance . The TH700R4 is much superior to the TH350. Lower 1st gear, lockup torque converter and overdrive.

Not sure what I'm going to do, probably be a Summit GM Performance 300-350 HP crate engine of some sort or other...You know how it goes--The Nova waaaaay before the Chevelle.

Thankfully a friend has a tranny shop to bullet proof the 350 turbo...See what I end up with, he may be back for the rear end if it's a tire smoker

Have to re-spring it, it's height is pretty much today's custom standard but we had a road kill cat hit the cross member--too low. Will put an inch or so under it to make it more palatable for PA terrain. Plus my floor jack barely will slid under it without inspiration.

My parents drag raced (yes, my mom too. She blew it up a couple of times--very competitive--she can hit some gears) a 62 or 63...Love the late 60s and early 70s vintage, true classic style.

Mom broke the Hurst shifter off in a 65 GTO Bobcat 421 tri-power..She didn't want to loose to a Hemi Roadrunner..."Powder Puff" at that time was straight up, no dial in...Momsie didn't want to loose (she did)...My dad kept the remains of that shifter.

That's funny, my mom, who is almost '93, was drag racer as well. She held one of the stock class records for a season with her '65 Pontiac 2+2, 421 H.O., turbo 400, 4.33 gears, cheater slicks. That 4000 lb monster ran 13.20's on 7" tires with very little traction. Nothing in the world sounded better than a Pontiac when the Tri Power was in full song!

My '67 Impala SS has an LT1 and 4L60E, modern drive train, classic style.

My 60 Impala has a 350 (replacing a 283 smoothie) and a 700R4 (replacing a leaky old Turboglide). Runs down the road very nicely...if only the linkage were set up correctly...

Your '59 and '60 are sweet!

The nice thing about the 700R is it doesn't require a computer, so it gives you a quick launching 1st gear and a nice overdrive to drop the RPMS for cruising in an older car. Today, if you're going to go to the trouble of putting in a modern engine like an LS with electronic fuel injection, you may as well go with a modern transmission too.

Pretty close to what my parents had--Muncie with 4:33's...I was a really little kid when they had that but I remember being stuck to the back seat when my dad would nail it, and he did that often.

Didn't really give a 700 much thought, might have to do some Summit shopping to see what's out there..Thanks.
