Can't compare gear to HST. Gear wins every time! :D It is surprising that the much lighter B7510 could out push the 50% heavier JD. Makes sense it if was a poorly designed HST transmission that couldn't put all the power down. I'm guessing that if he was spinning sometimes and bogging other times the difference was if he was adding weight or removing it from the tires with the FEL. Still, he couldn't put all the power down when pressuring the tires with the FEL and that is just poor design. I've heard of several HSTs having that problem years back. You don't tend to hear about it anymore (a assume they figured it out and fixed it) I had a similar tractor to the B7510. It was a Kioti LB1914. 19 to 21 hp depending where you look. Would run out of engine in 4th gear. Would spin all 4 tires in 3rd gear ballasted to 3800 pounds (2100 pound bare tractor).
No they don't. As long as the HST machine is capable of slipping the wheels there will be no difference. Some crap HST machines can't, and sit there and whine. A good HST will pull equally as hard as a gear. A gear will pull faster and more efficient, but not harder. The old L2550 ballasted to about 4500 pounds could spin all 4 wheels in 5th gear.

I guess I should have used the wink face instead of the green smile face. I thought that the explanation that followed cleared up any notions that I actually believed my first two sentences.

Every HST I've ever driven could spin the tires even with backhoe attached. :)

And loaded tires.

When I was a teenager working on a large ranch, I got a tractor stuck. So I went and got another tractor, chained it up to the first tractor and got the second tractor stuck. Being a 17 year old, I decided to get the biggest tractor, chained it up to the other tractors and proceeded to get it stuck too. The ranch owner wasn't very happy when he found three tractors all stuck with tight chain between all.

Good thing he had a dozer too.

Should have gotten the biggest tractor first and a longer chain.

That's priceless. shame you didn't get the dozer stuck in there along with all the others. lol. Imagine the reaction from the rancher then...

When I did my first inspection I noticed that the FEL bucket did not have the steel
protective wear strip bolted to the lower edge.

Are tractors/FEL's sold without them?

Do I need to install one, and if so, what do they cost for a 61" bucket?

With less than 100 hours on this 2007 model, will I need to replace the
coolant, front axle fluid, and hydraulic fluid and filters?

I would say that adding a wear bar depends on what you are planning on using the tractor for. If your going to clear snow for example off of a paved driveway then I think a wear bar would be a good idea. If your just going to dig in the dirt once in a while then you don't really need it.

Oil's get acid in them. It's a reaction between the condensation and the oil when you use your equipment. Newer oils a a lot better at preventing acid formation but it's cheep insurance to change the oil.

The rust inhibitors in the coolant also degrade over time. That's why you need to change it.

Now nobody is going to say that you have to do the oil and coolant changes but if you want to keep your equipment in top shape it's part of ownership. Your owners manual will have recommended intervals. If you don't have the manual they are available as pdf's on Deere's website.

Good luck with your new purchase!
