That was of course the day that Buddy Holley died. Lately though, we are losing some of what I would term "our generations" greats. David Bowie, Glenn Fry and a number of actors.

With a leap of faith, I get the feeling that many of the members are more or less my vintage (65)? If so, going back to the crazy days of the late sixties and early seventies, no matter what, we had some great music. Certainly much better than what IMHO is being made today. It seems like rock songs try to hard to cover to many themes, country is for those that cannot make it in the rock world, etc, etc.

Anyway, we are barely into the new year and everyday we hear of someone that once was (or perhaps still is) relavent passing on. RIP

I mispelled his name, it should be Frey not Fry, sorry. Actually, I also mispelled Buddy Holly's name though his real name did have the "e" in it. Having troubles with my "e",s I guess.

May I humbly suggest going to YouTube and check out Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. 'Todays' music covered in older styles... heck, you can even understand the words! As an example, here is Ellie Goulding's song 'Burn' done as a '60s Girl Group; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZY9_Xr5XPA

Hopefully it'll put a smile back on your face, Mate.

Almost feels like the death of an old friend. Netflix has an excellent documentary "The History of the Eagles"... One of the best things I've watched in ages!

I watched that to and loved it.
I didn't realise the Eagles had so many hits. Hotel California being their best. IMHO

I no longer listen to the radio, when one of my kids uses any of my vehicles as soon as I get in, my ears are assailed by what sounds like a sack of cats going through a chipper and that's if I'm lucky and it's not on a rap station.:banghead:

Here's the rule at our house. Whoever is driving gets to pick the music. Wouldn't want the driver to be stressed or aggressively aggravated, now would we? Hmmm?

I liked most of the Eagles songs and while Hotel California was very good the best one for me was "Witchy Woman" but then that was my wife's handle back in the old CB days and of course every guy who heard her wanted to meet with her since she had that soft sexy voice.

Also in the same age group...

Was sad to hear about Glenn Frey passing...he was a versatile talent...
IMO, the Eagles produced the best R&R after Joe Walsh joined the band...they had a lot of hits that have become classics but just about everything they recorded that got any air time was/is still just "commercial" rock and roll...
As for other music artists passing and although it been over two years...the saddest I've been about an artist (I was fond of) passing was J.J. Cale...even if you've never heard of him you've heard his music and lyrics...
To somber back further..like Buddy Holly who also died in a transportation accident...the world lost two of the best guitar players ever on the days that Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughan were killed...

I was saddened to hear of Glenn's passing, but I have always thought about the Eagles as I do Eric Clapton....... Good stuff, not great stuff. IMO Clapton hasn't done anything worthwhile (recording wise) since Cream..... David Bowie is a much greater musical loss IMHO

FWIW...
Speaking of Eric Clapton...Some of the credit for one of his (Derek and the Dominos) greatest hits ' LAYLA'...can be attributed Duane Allman's guitar work...

Also...A few other songs that were hits for Eric Clapton were written by J.J. Cale...like "After Midnight"...

This is why I mentioned recording wise. Live, he ain't bad. Just can't write for poop. I am just saying that there are a multitude of players that can/could/do out play Mr. Eric. Oh and Layla???? Just another "Stairway to Freebird"....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT0x0aNRkUs

And this is a taste of what Monte can do...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjpkVv9OrZQ

Hey...I really don't care for commercial music either...(and not trying to play "six degrees...") but since you mentioned 'Freebird"... One of Lynyrd Skynyrd's other hits was 'Call Me the Breeze'...written by J.J. Cale...!

T'is true that Slash Pine. Mr. Cale wrote a bunch of stuff that most folks aren't aware of. Same as Mr. Dylan. And going back on topic, sorta..... Mr. Jackson Browne wrote a bunch of the songs that made the Eagles what they were/are???

Neither Frey nor Bowie were not really that old either as life seems to run on so much longer these days for many people...a shame.

Eagles music has always been a favorite of mine.

Listened to Bowie music from all the way back to those Diamond Dog days.

Rebel Rebel...awesome tune.

The world may just come to a stop when Richards and Jagger pass

I guess we're just showing our age :D

Thanks for posting Wag. A few thoughts/observations...

I was wondering what the heck the fire extinguisher was for... my first thought was that it was a lame prop for the song choice... but it soon became quite evident!

Second, what an interesting way to anneal your brass :D

Lastly, is that lipstick on the wall? :confused3:
