How much does that log weigh?

I to believe you should dry your wood. Years ago we heated with a wood stove and green wood just puts you and your house at risk. Even today with our new place that we only have a heatilator fireplace in I still cure our wood. I fill one side of our shed this year and burn it next year then do the reverse the next year. Not that much extra work and better all around.

The elements have a lot to do with how fast wood seasons...the ambient temperature, air movement, humidity etc...and the way split wood is stacked...

If stacked (tic-tac-toe style) so air can circulate around it...I've had freshly split oak go from 47% to 12%-15% in 4-6 weeks...

Nope...The mountains of N.E. GA...
Both red and white oak of trees felled in the last 6-8 months...
Two different meters both +/- 1%-2%...interior of large fuel sized read 18%-25%...and actually I like mixing the fuel wood up...anything less than 10% is going to burn very fast...even with a throttled flue...

It would not take that long to "dry" once it has been split into 4-6 pieces after cutting it up. I use wood about a year after stocking up and it is nice and dry from being split/covered for the year. Some red oak too. One thing about getting into the larger diameter wood is being able to tilt the splitter into a vertical position and not having to lift the really heavy pieces up on the splitter. I am getting too old for the stuff I did as a young feller'

The issue with a vertical splitter is bending over or working on/off the knees...plus it leaves all the split wood on the ground...I prefer working at a comfortable stand up height...just moving wood from the splitter table to a truck, pallet, loader bucket etc...without having to wear out the back constantly bending over...

...Now if you have a youngster helping moving the wood it's a different story...

Never seen wooden forks on a tractor before, looks they can do the job. Now you need a trailer to put the logs on, haul more with less grunt.
One minor thing I would do to those wooden forks is add two bars at-least a ft. long on top, 1" threaded rods, 2x4s, angle bars, etc. so if you lift a log a little to high, it wont roll back towards you while your on the tractor seat, other then that nice bucket folks.

I concocked those from my nogin and they worked, no engineering applied. I have since replaced the vertical pine 2X4 with an oak 2X4, and added a lag bolt on each connection. As mentioned earlier, this wooden structure hauled a pretty hefty load of oak wood. Seasoned wood or not, this tractor I bought is fun to operate.

Let me know if the Wood Police will let me burn a 6 month old split log? If not, get a life.
