Get a long-hair cat. They work best.

I have always felt that while cleaning metal ducts might not offer any benefit, it is unlikely to do any harm.

Flexible ducts are another matter entirely. I have never done it because I do not want to take the chance of damaging them. If the cleaning process somehow damages a flex duct, repair is going to be very expensive.

I would pass on that.

What dust is going to mold after the $34 cleaning if they would just do it?

I once went for one of those cleanings. The guy showed up and ran a big flex hose to the furnace from his vacuum truck.

He then came into the house with a 2 stroke gas leaf blower. I asked him what the heck he was doing. He told me not to worry that when he was done there would be huge piles of dust in my furnace that he would vacuum out. I said if there is no dust I am not paying you a dime to which he agreed. I did not sign anything and away he went, register to register with his blower. We then went to the furnace and sure enough, no dust. The vac truck was not running so it was not being sucked up. I told the guy to get the heck out of my house.

if I'm not mistaken mold requires moisture to live.........so unless you have a humidifier attached to your furnace or have a really damp house its unlikely you have mold in the ducts.......most hot air systems have the opposite effect and dry the house out.....look at your furniture joints and see if they are separating........if you do have a humidifier on the furnace consider disconnecting it and getting rid of it...they are a breeding ground for lots of nasty things that then get spread around the house......with newer construction being almost air tight just general day to day living generates a lot of moisture that stays inside.........Jack

If installed correctly a furnace connected whole house humidifier will not cause mold or anything nasty to spread. At the highest setting ours will not allow more than 45% humidity. Mold needs close to 60%+ to live. Even in a tight house it can be hard to maintain humidity during a cold winter. Our house blower door tested around 1.9 ACH50 and still needs extra humidity.

How did you manage duplicate posts an hour apart?

But as I wrote - Ducts in some houses may require cleaning, but you need to have someone not selling you a service to check.

Bird, I realize you are probably not in condition yet to go cleaning ducts, but if your filters were just serviced you could get an borescope/endoscope to hook up to a laptop. Walmart sells them for about $30. They are easy to work. And then when your done with your ducts you can use it later for a self-colonoscopy or other uses.

/edit - But this is one case where TBN does not want pictures!! :)

Guessing he is a tabbed browser like me.

I use chrome, When I scroll through my homepage, I open ALL of the subscribed threads that have new posts. OR when I view todays posts, I open all that peak my interest.

If you reply to a thread, but before it "actually" posts you have moved on to another tab. By the time you get done viewing and closing all the other tabs, you realize that one you posted in had that pop-up box asking you to leave, or stay on this page. (whatever you click results in a duplicate).

I have done this before. Usually not an hour, because I dont normally open an hours worth of tabs to read. But have done some duplicates 8-10 minutes apart.

dadnabbit, wifes aunt just left with the siamese, that furball would have been perfect. We have the metal ducts, i have an extension hose for the shop vac & have rigged a brush onto a 6" head, clean ours every couple years on account of dogs in the house.

This past March we had our HVAC system replaced. Everything including ducts. The prior system was installed 20? years ago. Inspection of the ducts revealed nothing of any significance and definitely not worth $1,100 of "cleaning." We only replaced because of getting a Zoned system on one heat pump.
