Thanks Moss... it seems California and Indiana have something in common.

Nebraska doesnt. Coloraado does. I think CO is every year for diesels, and every 5 for gassers, but i may be wrong.

Its more like northwest Indiana is a suburb of Chicago. They are even on Chicago time. I'm about 6-7 miles east of the western edge of the eastern time zone up there in St. Joseph county. I don't like being on the western edge of the time zone. It doesn't get dark until almost 10:00pm in summer. The sun is not at its highest until about 2:00pm. And every time we visit anyone just west of us, our stupid cell phones pick up cell towers from the CST even though we aren't in it. We used to have that problem being close to Michigan, too, but now we are on the same time zone as them for every and eternity.

I live outside the city limits - so no testing for any year vehicle. I believe, within the city limits, all vehicles must be tested annually except those that are licensed as antique. There is no state wide emission testing for vehicles, that I'm aware of, in WA.

That was exactly what was said..
The same with Arkansas, no ET or even vehicle inspections. These were in effect but dropped several years back.

What is all this emissions testing you speak of? Jk. :).

Only vehicle inspections are commercial vehicles.

Now here in Ontario, with an increased number of people that have been deleting class 8 trucks, they passed a new law. When you go for your annual safety the dealer plugs in to the ECM. If there is any sign of anyone but an authorized dealer being in there, or any check engine or ABS light on the dash, it is a fail and you cannot renew the plates until corrected.

I'm sure the tuners will keep finding ways around it with being able to not leave a foot print in the ECM. But at a cost of 8 to 10 grand for a delete, do you take the gamble? I mean it does pay off big time with increased fuel mileage and reliability, but would sure hurt the wallet if you get caught.

Here's why smog rules aren't likely to be relaxed. This photo is a normal summer day in the State Capital, Sacramento. The Bay Area has pristine air because it blows in from the ocean - but by the time the air reaches the foothills 120 miles East it has absorbed all this crud and the Bay Area's smog just stacks up against the Sierras instead of blowing over into Nevada.

Los Angeles is worse. I used to fly down weekly for work and it hurt my lungs getting out of the plane just like when you use too much bleach cleaning the shower. Nobody in LA wants the sky to look like this, or likes it when their kids are kept in for recess because the atmosphere outdoors can give them lung cancer.

(Post where I explained that photo).

The natives called the LA bason "the valley of smokes" long before white ever set foot on the region.

First time I've heard that. It's accurate. Like I described for the Central Valley, air pollution can't escape the basin until the normal wind direction eventually shifts.

From that historic base add the infrastructure to support an additional 18 million people, each one traveling an average over 22 miles per day and the need to limit air pollution is inevitable.
