Thanks for the reply. 702 is the correct section for this discussion. User permitted to manually transfer load. Nothing prohibiting generator connection to subpanel, as long as you have manually tranferred from utility.
So both the OPs and Aarons cases meet code if they follow the correct procedures. Aarons case with the kirk keys makes it fool proof, does the same function as the sliding lock.

As i said before, i don't do this, but don't believe it is against code, if your AHJ agrees. I use extension cords from generator to the load.

Usually generator threads degrade into a pi$$ing contest over back feeding. Glad to see this one was different.

Agreed.. and on that note I think I'll install a kirk key on my dryer plug and main breaker.... Should be ok right ???
