For those that might be wondering what we mean by "ham bands", we mean bands or groupings of frequencies. It has nothing to do with musical groups.:) Perhaps this chart will help a bit. Or not..:)

Hi KC7SW here. All my ham radio activity was when I was in Alaska(WL7AHL). Strictly HF - 40, 80, 160 & EME. I put up a vertical when we were first here in '82 but propagation was poor. I still have the old equipment(Collins 380 & Kenwood) but never really got back into it. Maybe some day.

It always amazes me how many of us there are on this board.

On another note, for what it is; a wire antenna, the so called Windom or Off Center Fed Dipole is a really great performer. You would think I sell them or something for all the praise I heap on it, but no, it is just the best simple antenna I have ever found. I have a minibeam and it works well, and offers directivity and rejection of the back and sides, but there are times the OFCD/Windom will outperform it on 20 meters. Not always, not even usually, but there are times.

Have you had any issues with your Stepir we just had to replace one at our EOC that was 4 years old the wind broke a few elements off
I'm sure the salt air didn't help it any either here on the coast.

What are you using for HF mobile antennas?

I have had no problems with my Stepir it has been up since they came out with the 4 element I do need to paint the tubes in the spring.

For mobile antennas I run Tarheel 200 screwdriver on both my truck and the motor home also no problems I have had both at least 10 years great antenna. I would not use any other type mobile antenna And I have tried many.
