Does the f250 Super Duty make the f350 obsolete?

When I purchased my '08 F-250 I considered getting an F-350 instead. However, the town "landfill" allows residents with trucks up to 3/4 ton rating free access to the bulky waste (demolition debris, stumps and logs, etc) area. One ton and over trucks are considered commercial and must go on the scales and pay over $100/ton.

I would have got the 1 ton and switched the badges.

When my brother bought has 3 year old 1978 f250 in High School... he changed a lot of things and did swap the f250 emblems for f350.

They have your vin number and that tells them all about the truck. Don't think you're gonna trick government when it comes to stealing money from you, they're always one step ahead. :)

This was back before the smog test machines were interconnected... you would get a hand written form to enclose with your check 35 years ago...

There were also variations in that 49 State Vehicles were different than California.

One person I know that is a collector got his Dealer Tags... so he only deals with smog and license at the time of sale...

IMO, I think its the other way around, and that the F250 is almost obsolete.

Aside from govt regs restricting GVWR and tag fees, I see no benefit at all to a F250.

Payloads and GVWR's have gone up and up. There never was much difference between a 3/4-ton and a 1-ton SRW. And never really understood why both were ever made. Either 1. get rid of the 1-ton SRW class and you can easily offer the exact same truck in a 3/4-ton. or 2. vice versa. Get rid of the 3/4-ton and call it a SRW-1-ton. Cause IMO, the only difference "can" be the badge on the side of the truck.

I had a 79 dodge 3/4 ton with a 9000# GVWR, and an 85 1-ton SRW with a 8600# GVWR. The 1-ton had dana 60's. The 3/4 ton had a D60 rear and 44 front. Otherwise identical trucks.

Modern 3/4 tons seem to be ~9000-9400 GVWR and 1-ton SRW around 9900. You could easily name the 9200 GVWR 3/4ton a 1-ton SRW just as you could call a 9900GVWR 1-ton a 3/4 ton.

So....to sum it up, IMO, they are the same "class" of truck. There really is only 3. 1/2 tons, heavy duty SRW, and 1-ton DRW.

You and I are on the same page. I have not understood why anyone would buy a 3/4 ton truck for some 10 plus years.

The difference is my last 3/4 ton was a 04 and its GVWR was 10,000#

My current 1 ton SRW has a GVWR of 11,500#

Way more weight than the truck you mentioned.

Maybe a retirement truck to see the good old USA.I for one try to purchase a truck for the long haul unlike some of todays buyers who like to change trucks like their underwear.

I totally agree.

To me the F350 SRW is a no brainier. It's only a $600 option over a comparable F250.

Chris

I dont need an F350, with an F250 I'd take the downgrade option to 9,900 pounds.

Driving a 350/3500 up here in Ontario means commercial annual safety and paperwork.

A 2500/250 is all I need. That gets me an 8' box and a full crew cab.
