I noticed this clean set of track prints I made yesterday. We have ice under a thin layer of snow. To me this shows how a good set of ice chains work. The right track is the unchained front. The left is the chained rear. Notice how all of the weight on the rear tires is on the chains all the time. You can hardly see the ag tires making a mark. The chains are never down between the tire lugs - always on top.

Looks like you have the perfect set of chains there.

Nice set of chains GG. It's also nice to see such a good fit, too. My Dad always told me that a properly fit tire chain did not need elastic tensioners across the hub!

sweet chains, do you use them in the summer too? different pair?
I am also really interested in your hydraulic toplink and drawbar-logging arm. I like simple ingenuity like that!

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I see you are in Corinth - we are in Waterford. I like to use the chains in the woods year round. But I take them off when I have work to do on the gravel road and don't put them back on until that is over with.

If you like those tongs you might get a kick out of this little video of them.

Very neat. I was also looking at the cool frame you built off the 3 point draw bar, and connected to the hydraulic toplink. Do you ever feel like you need a protective plate, like on a Farmi winch? I am a novice, and have been using my rear blade for skidding single logs. Works well.

Hi Mr. Gould,

Do you have any more detailed pictures of your logging tongs you wouldn't mind sharing- I would love to be able to understand how that secondary articulation which you have bolted to them works, as well as seeing how your remote opening control is attached and deployed.

Speaking of that, what is the other round thing that looks like a magnet with a dependent cable hanging from it to the left of center on your ROPS?

Thanls again as always!

Thanks for your interest. Here is the tongs thread I made. There is a picture of the welded A-frame near the end.

The first A-frame used a chain top link and did not require welding which may be of interest. It allowed me to play with dimensions and angles.

In the center of the rops is a key/tool retractor that I use for "managing" my winch control rope. It zips it up off of the ground when I release it so it doesn't get caught in the chains and tires and is hanging easily accessible when I need it. The other item on the rops is a small pulley so I can get a vertical pull on the rope to latch open the tongs
