Hello again...

I have problems - the mechanic, who hade to fix our Power Steering - its not able to repair the piece.... Its to difficult for him, he says, so he is not even tray to do something with it....

Is it really so difficult to repair it...? What do you say.... The mechanic says there are a lot of small pieces in it / like springs etc.

What should I do????:confused3:

The most difficult thing to do is getting the 6 large o-rings in their appropriate lands in the housing. If valve bodies are removed from steering shaft one needs to keep track of shim locations.

I understand what are you talking about.... At last - the mecanic was not able to disassemble the power unit.... only he took out the screw-cap and he could not do anything further.... So - the other pieces did not come out and he could not continue the disassemble....

As he says there was no retainer ring, no securing screew or other pieces like these.... He talked to another mecanic - and he said that he should not even tray to repair, because this piece his much difficult than Danfoss tractor hydraulic, which is used in other tractors type...

After you how can be disassembled the other pieces from the PS cylinder? By rotating or pressed...or with hammer?

You need to screw/out also the bottom part, too or it can be disassembled from the top? Sometime ago you mentioned that not every case need to be disassanbled completly, it is enough to remove only the top part.....
What is your opinion - should be tray to do anything with it or - should be better to fix it back as it is now.... We need the tractor as soon as possible because works on fields are starting.

After steering wheel is removed and adjusting nut(parts key 8) is loosened from housing then turn steering shaft to left then whole valve/shaft assembly on shaft will come out of steering valve housing so 6 big o-rings(parts key 18) can be inspected/replaced.

Hello.

The JD 1020 PS column seal kit / code number - AT26188 or AT315816 contains that 6 big O-rings?

By now I spoke with quite a lot of people and the fitting shops, but nobody could help me...

Tomorrow I will bring home that piece from the mecanic - I would tray to fix it by myself, but I am not quite sure.... As I see the main problem consists in the small parts components and their right places... If I dont see exactly the problem, where should I know which pieces is not working right?

I am afraid that if I tray to repair it without any succes - maybe it is not going to work at all and I will not be able to use the tractor.

An other opportunity is to put at his place and I try to search after second/hand piece from somewere, I hope to find one...

Hy,

Today I worked with my tractor - I was seeding. But new problem appearead during the work - meantime did not want to lift up the seeder. While the hyd oil was cold in the tractor, everything workek well, but when the oil got warmer - started to lift up hardly or at all. Before did not never happen this. Sometimes it worked well, other time lifted stacato, sometimes did not lift at all, even at high engine revolution.
I do not understand what is happening. Tomorrow morning I am going to tray with cold engine and oil. I hope, after I will change oil and filter the problems will dissappear.

Jim - do you have any scheme about the hyd sytem about the JD 1020.

Above the hyd oil pump there is a oil tank - what is its function - only a simple oil tank or equalizer tank... If I drain away the oil, is it enough to screew out the two drain-plugs under the diff case? Or I take off the hyd oil filter / the oil will flow out totally?

And - after I fill up with new hyd oil - do I have to vent the oil system, or it is going to vent automatically? Is this type of tractor delicate when oil is changed?

And from where should I fill the new oil / only in back at the oil plug or somewhere else, like in front, in the tank, above the oli pump-?!

Thanks, JIm

VERY IMPORTANT: If not already cleaned after oils drained check sump screen(parts key 15) for cleanliness. Also check hyd filter relief valve(parts keys 7-9) to be sure it's no stuck open. Oil reservoir at front is designed to furnish oil to frt pump if oil supply is low from trans pump. Sorry but I have no oil schematics for a JD utility tractor. Leaking steering o-rings could cause 3 pt to not lift correctly. Fill hyd's behind seat and oil dipstick will be on RH heel of ones foot if setting in seat. Check with engine running with dipstick nut just resting on threads of tube. Trans/diff should hold about 8 gallons. After changing oil just operate hyd's to expel(vent) any air

Thanks..

This morning I tried to lift with cool hyd oil - it was working a littke bit better than with warm or hot hyd oil, but it is not good at all.
I already checked the oil level - its good. If the steering O-rings leaked, than if I close the pipe which goes to the PS (photo 2), than the 3 point needs to work in this case, no?!
WP_20160306_16_26_40_Pro.jpgWP_20160306_16_26_26_Pro.jpgWP_20160306_16_27_01_Pro.jpgWP_20160306_16_27_13_Pro.jpgWP_20160306_16_27_22_Pro.jpg

The parts key 15 from the scheme must be the rectangular screw behind the hyd oil filter. And the 7-9 parts key will be the a big hexagon screen, above the filter cover (photo 4). In the photos nr. 5,7 you can see a valve / this piece can provoke problems?

Others, the hyd oil system contains 35-38 litre oil - 8/9 gallons. After draining out - will remain a little oil in the system...5-10 litres? IN this case, I need max 30 litre new hyd oil to refill the system (7-8 gallons)... Do I have right?

I plan to change the old oil to new no name oil, put new filter, after that again drain the oil and refill with JD Hy-Gard 10W-30, and change again te filter.

And after this operation the 3 pt lift will not work, than it means other problems, like hyd oil pump problems?! Does exist an other pump on the oil system / you mentioned something like trans pump_?!

Yes to all 3 of your questions.

I dont understand something which may be important for the working of the hydraulicL111007________UN11SEP97.gifWP_20151025_14_58_00_Pro.jpg.

Its about the cover which can be seen on the picture. Piece nr. 3 from the scheme is gasket, on it there is a rectangular hole. When I removed, this hole and under the hole the calliber was also filled with red silicone paste.

When I fixed it back, I did not refill with silicone, I left it empty. The cover gasket now is leaking a little bit, but I will repair it again.

I dont understand the way of the high pressure hyd oil how it is flowing under the power steeling column boreholes.

1. The oil comes from the high pressure oil pump, enters in the PS cylinder, than the used oil flows out across a calliber from the cylinder....

2. Under the cilynder base there are two callibers in the alloy, one off the callibers flows down to the transfer case, the second calliber outlet flows into the cavity under the cylinder.

3. Has to come out but the cover gasket does not let it to flow out....the cover close it.

And than from where does collect the oil in the cavity. In the cavity there is no plug-hole than how does it work??? Beside of this the cavity was full of oil mud and water.

May in the gasket be high pressure? Or only low pressure oil flow. Can also this cause problems?
