Picture relabeled for clarity. I am assuming that the Pinion Gear is the one that comes in from the brake area and the end of it is in the "inside space"...correct?

Is this the area you are referring to the bolts?

This is the current status. I believe I can take the top plate off with just a few bolts, one hydraulic line on the right and unhook the PTO controllers. Should I do this to see inside? Or not necessary?

Different model but #51 is the ring gear, #50 is the pinion gear. They are sold as a set, #49. Bolts I speak of are #59, I think. You may end up taking the hydraulic unit off but should be able to see the problem through the pto opening. TRANSMISSION_INTERNAL: Yanmar Tractor Parts

Here is a pic of the inside.

Are all the teeth on all the gears, final gears, final pinion gears, differential ring and pinion gears, differential cluster gears?

Any metal in the bottom of the sump?

All the teeth are on both final gears and the ring gear. I can't really see the inside of the pinion gears (the ones from the axles but have not seen any missing. I have closeup pics of the left and right sides but my Internet is acting up so I'll label and post them first thing in morning.

There is nothing in bottom broken off. I have felt around multiple times.

I'm not sure if the rod coming in from inside the brake area is one piece all the way to the inside of the ring gear or not. But if it is I think it is broken just left of the left side of ring gear as I can see it turn there when turning by hand but it is not moving on just inside the ring gear. Is it one piece? If so...to check it would it be easier to check by taking it out through the brake area or removing the hydro box and checking from above?

I really appreciate both the patience and assistance.

Don't take that apart until you get more advice here. The differential lock rod comes in from the right side of the case and meets something coming in from the left, and is free to turn relative to that left object whatever it is. Maybe the left side is a PTO shifter??

There was a thread recently that described this, the dif-lock was forcing the other site to rotate when it shouldn't, because they were rusted together.

But I don't remember the details I read. Wait for someone to show up who can explain it clearly.

On the 276 and thinking the 2310 is the same the differential lock rod just goes into the transmission housing on the left side. Nothing else on it on the 276. The pto shifter is on another shaft a little further back.

How about stepping on the differential lock and watching what happens inside? The rod will turn and the roll pin will come dowward forcing the shift fork to the right. Might have to turn things a little to allow the differential cogs to line up and engage. Here is a scan showing how the 276 goes together.

I'm waiting California...I have a meeting tonight after work so I doubt if I have any time to mess with it today. Could sneak out and take a pic of something if somebody needs something specific.

The Diff lock pedal is on the right side and is that bar with the spring at the top. Comes over to the left and has a lever going down. I did push the diff pedal yesterday to see what the movement was and it seems to pull that black lever over towards the right...but that is all I noticed.

Here is a better picture of the left side and back with more labels.
