New truck suggestions

If the EPA would set a standard and allow the manufacturer to get there on their own, we would see much better fuel economy but as long as the EPA demands what type of equipment is required, we are stuck...to a point.

Especially in the Construction and AG worlds.

Went through the same process and ordered the 2016 Diesel Super Duty... only time will tell if we decided right.

It does have DEF... some of my professional over the road truckers or OK with DEF... what do I know.

Also hoping this rendition of the Ford Diesel has addressed past issues.

2017 is new Super Duty roll-out... which means I would have to wait to at least 2018 or later as my experience from arbitration auto cases indicate the first year roll-outs are where most problems are found.

One thing that is still a concern is how everything is jammed under the hood... this is not my Grandfather's Diesel to be sure.

My biggest issue with DEF wasn't the system itself or reliability of it. It's the hassle you have to carry a jug of DEF with you and a funnel and not have them make a mess in the cab. There doesn't seem to be a set amount of def trucks use. They say you either have one that uses a lot or you don't. Apparently the dealerships can't adjust that parameter. If it was like they say and you only had to fill the def tank at oil change intervals it wouldn't have been bad at all but we were having to fill the def tank every third tank of fuel on the ford diesel and every fourth tank or so on the ram. The dealerships told us not to use the at the pump def nozzles because that's what causes most of the def systems to fail from contaminated def and warranty doesn't cover that. I could go on with other things I don't like about def trucks but you get the point.

Your new truck is really nice and I hope it serves you well and hope you got a low use age def one. Who knows the def may not bother you at all we all get bothered and annoyed by different things and def is one of the things that gripe me.

Congrats on your new truck. I'm slightly jealous. Okay, more than slightly.... :)

My Son wrenches for a living, he's done major engine work on several of the major three diesels. On the Super Duty he lifts the cab and front clip.

Have you saw any pics of the new Super Duty??

Did not know about not using DEF from the pump... one more thing to remember.

Usage does seem to vary greatly depending on load.

One thing that was stressed is not to fill the tank too full in freezing conditions as damage may occur... not a huge concern on the ranch as we never get a hard freeze.

Also paid extra for the extended Ford warranty...

Hoping for the best... the beast lists for as much as I paid for my first three homes combined and I live in the SF Bay Area!

The Dealer had a 2017 Brochure on the desk... did not see any on the showroom rack...

If memory serves it is styled more towards the F150

Got a friend that's a salesman, his record high is $67,800.

I think the F150 would have covered all the bases... and that was how we started.

His last Ford truck was a 1978... so he waited 38 years for his dream truck... works very hard and hope he has great service from it.

Shopping was a bit of a pain... Dealer games and such.

Ended up buying local... where only the price and having to trade to get it was the issue... not all that many Diesels sitting on Dealer lots in the heart of the SF Bay Area...

When my brother spoke again with the truck manager who said no one could beat the price ... brother said not not exactly... it was because there were no games and local... the manager was surprised and we showed the deal a friend got in farm country and without asking the local Dealer came back and said OK... plus Ford had sent him a $750 certificate in the interim that cinched the deal.

I do think there is value in buying local when it makes sense...

MSRP window sticker at $70,945

No wonder my '00 7.3L 4x4 Extended cab with 220K miles is worth $12K. :)

My buddy says he'll give me $12K anytime. So you know he'd sell it for $14K.

I can relate to the house deal, I paid $31K for a new house in '79 that I'm still living in. :)
