Hogs!

Seems to me if I lived in Texas, I'd be eating a lot of free meat.

Just saw this picture on FB. One more good reason to kill as many hogs as possible

I, like Milton Burro, know absolutely nothing about wild hogs. However, its more than obvious that they do more damage than the wild turkeys we have around here.

I'm just wondering - how much impact do these hogs have on a person who is raising cattle?

I can't say with any exact accuracy, but would estimate that one hog will destroy at least 100 square feet of pasture in a night digging around for grubs. I've seen holes that they have dug several feet deep, but mostly they just turn the grass upside down getting to the roots and what's under the root system. A dozen hogs will do a lot more damage in a single night. Have it go on for weeks or months and we're talking acres of land that is so tore up you can barely get a tractor over it.

A farmer by us used to plant corn for sileage. He lost almost 50% of his crop to hogs, roughly 100 acres worth. I personally have killed close to 2000 since 2005 by means of trapping and/or hunting. They are bad here and only getting worse.

trapping is the only way to put a dent in the population!!! There is no way you could dwindle a population down with a gun… I have also seen people put tannerite out by a pile of corn and then when enough hogs get around it they would shoot the tannerite...

Guns will not get rid of hogs , they breed to rapidly . Could they be trapped and altered or infected to be self defeating . I have watched the u tube hog hunts , lot of ammo but poor results . I have also watched all the high powered traps .Just curious .

deerefan, do you have some pictures of your trap? I am in the process of building one.
