My base is about $255 for four iPhones and one iPad with Verizon wireless family plan service. This includes 10gigs shared data, unlimited text, and global access on one phone (I travel internationally too much). I would like to remove two lines (my grown kids living on their own) but it is far cheaper for them to piggy back off of dad. They always say they will pay their part of the bill but do I ever see the cash or check in the mail... ?

So cut 'em off....nobody will take advantage of you like family.

" I thought about getting you a new Porsche for your birthday, but figured I'd pay your portion of the phone bill instead... " :)

It is just part of being a 'good' dad. I too have two out living with husband/GF and still on the family cell phone plan. We can afford it and they are just starting out.

I used to have sprint, then switched to verizon.

Gotta keep in mind that these more expensive plans from the big carriers like ATT, sprint, verizon, etc all pretty much give you free phones every two years. In reality, you are just paying for the phone with the added cost of the plan.

My choice to go verizon was more about service where I live, and phone selection. So my $150/mo plan is really more like $100 if you factor in that I got two $600 smartphones for free.

I really couldnt find an appreciable difference in any of the plans/carriers I was shopping. Straight talk, virgin, revel, ATT, verizon, T-mobil, etc. Some were a tad cheaper, some a tad more.....but not huge differences with all things considered. IMO, verizon has the best selection of android phones, and they certainly have the best coverage in my area.

If that's all they are bleeding you for, you're better off than most - and you can check up on what they are doing by reviewing the history.

The work phone is on a legacy plan...

1000 minutes for $100 and they never expire.

I could go 18 months for a long time so the cost was minimal... it was for the alarm and emergency calls.

Now I get calls asking if I'm in the building which is a waste when overhead paging is available.

It's ironic because the T-Mobil carrier works great at home and when I am away from the hospital.

Not so good when I am inside... lead walls, concrete structures, etc.

Never fails as I leave for the day and get about half a block away missed calls and voice mails...

With Verizon I pay $55 per month for unlimited talk/text and 2 gig data on a smart phone.

I have same amounts of talk, text data since last June with Cricket wireless which is on ATT network for $35. month.
What I like about their prices is it includes all taxes and is flat $35. The plan was $40, but if you put it on charge card you get the extra 5 bucks off a month.

Service has been excellent.

I see other secondary carriers with similar plans.

Verizon PrePaid, Pay as you go, PAYG ... $100 a year [ lasts a year if you prepay $100 or more, 15 cents a minute, minutes roll over each year ], works just about anywhere up here in the boonies.
I had that without a "smartphone" till the phone fell apart. Could not do weather radar or apps. Moved to an Android computer.

WHY does this happen?

My parents never paid MY cell phone bills when I moved out in 1972!

And since we've reached 40 posts, a little thread hijack -
For those of you who ONLY use your phone for "personal" stuff how many minutes a month do you use? I rarely use more than 50 minutes.
