I'm in desperate need of getting some discs, and can't seem to find a set of used ones in good enough shape. I was considering buying a set of County line 7' heavy discs. I've got a 3 cylinder gas Ford 2000. Will my tractors hydraulics be able to lift these discs with no issue? Thanks

very likely no.

6-6.5' are about as big as your 3pt will run. 7+ and you want a disc with travel wheels.

most of the farm dealers ( tsc, rural king ) have 6' disc.. heavy box, or cheap angle frames.

just load up with some ballast.

The sticker/tag on the discs say 6.5 ft but it rings up as 7 ft and the website says 7 ft. Not sure what the exact measurement of it is though.

This is it right here :
CountyLine Heavy-Duty Disc, 7 ft. - For Life Out Here

You don't think it could handle that? I thought the TSC ones weren't really too heavy.

I was just looking at the site, and these discs weigh around 860 lbs. The 6.5 foot one they have weighs 553 or so. Which do you think would work best for what I've got?

if i am not mistaken the 1968 and up 2000-3000s can lift 1700+lbs. on the 3 point.

Mine is a 1970. When relooking at the discs again on their site, it seems as if the 7' really only can cut 6.5', and seems that the 6.5' really cuts 6'.

Is there anywhere you know that I can look to verify the lifting load for my tractor? I've got em holding the larger one for me now but would need to call asap if I need them to change it, and was going to pick it up tomorrow.

I have a 7' that ran fine behind my old 820 JD 3 cyl, no problems lifting it either.

Mearntain, we used a heavy 7' (nominal) disk behind our ford 3000 diesels for years. I is is all you want to pick up with the 3 point hitch. You may need weights on the front end because it will be light. W Jones.

Weight of the Disc Harrow is the main factor in how it cuts, until its sinks to pan hubs. To a lesser extent, how the gang axles are set affects how it will cut. The third factor is pan spacing. Seven inch pan spacing provides much more float than nine inch pan spacing. More float, less penetration.

Disc Harrows, tilling deeply, resist with considerable draft force. So your tractor tire types, whether the rears are filled and whether or not you have 4-WD make a great deal of difference in what your tractor can successfully pull. In order to get good soil mixing you need to pull at a brisk walking pace, minimum. Soil moisture is also important.

The best way to discuss Disc Harrow for compact tractors begins with pan diameter, pan spacing, total weight, then width. You need at least forty pounds bearing on each pan to cut well with 9" spacing. Fifty pounds is better. Disc with seven inch spacing are pretty much smoothing, rather than cutting Disc Harrows. If your primary use will be smoothing plow furrows, seven inch spacing will leave a smoother bed than nine inch spacing.

Disc Harrow are measured for width with the gang angles flat, though the gangs will not cut set thus. As the gang angles are adjusted more aggressive they assume a > shape, therefor the width measured across decreases. So there is no "one" width measurement. Operating width will always be less than measured "flat" width.

A lot of what has been posted so far in this thread is just blah, blah, blah. Incomplete tractor information, incomplete Disc Harrow information.

that's a very optimistic #, and IF it is in any way correct, it is measured right at the upper lift arms.. not post balls, where the weight is.

What some people fail to understand is that if you have an implement that is sticking out 4-5' from the back of the tractors lift arms, that felt weight out on that lever is much different than having weight right at the lift arm balls.

To the OP. if the lift on your tractor is in good condition, and you ballast the heck out of the front, you should be able to pick up the 800# set.
