About the only thing is sound reduction with quality carpet... although quality rubber is very effective.

My Model A Fords came with rubber on the base models and carpet on the deluxe... so carpet has been around a very long time.

The carpet has sewn in snaps for easy removal...

I have rubber in my 1930 Pickup...

One of the farm guys showed off his new to him truck yesterday... 2012 F350 Diesel with dual and a flat bed stake and fifth wheel set up and massive receiver in the back... it is also 6 wheel drive.

He said he was looking for a basic work truck... has carpet, cruise, stereo etc....

I'm beginning to think base trucks only exist on paper... none are ever built.

I read an article about "optioned" vehicles. Trucks were the highest on the list in delta between base and purchase price.
In other words, people spend the most on options on trucks.

I bought used, but my truck has the diesel in it. I suppose it is a $9,000 option........

I know with ford police and fleet vehicles it is actually MORE expensive to get a radio delete option than just the base AM/FM radio since it is figured into the build cost and production run. I consider 2 options lines when I look at "options"
There are your interior and basic drive line options. Then there are specific mechanical options especially for trucks or commercial chassis. Everything from electrical pre-wires for things like work lights or equipment sets to rear end ratios, front locking hub options and cooling/towing packages. Some makers ( Ford) are very generous with those packages. While others (GM) are somewhat limited while Dodge is utterly confusing in their literature.

I never understood carpet in cars or trucks just something else to have to clean.
Carpet can be a little more comfortable. In my pickup i still clean the rubber floors, It may be a little quicker to clean than carpet, and cleans easier (mud) but that is about the only advantage. I honestly prefer carpet, but my current pickup has rubber which is fine i geuss... Armor All protectant spray once a week leaves the whole floor spotless. :)

I would be extremely wary of using armor all of a rubber floor. Had a brother clean his truck like that and drove down the road. The vulcanized rubber on his work boots picked up the armor all and when he went to put on the break his boot slipped off the pedal and he had to jam on the breaks by pushing his boot on the shaft above the break pad because his boot kept slipping off the pedal.

Seems I read all passenger vehicles will require a back up camera in the next few years. I wonder if that includes light duty trucks?

I'm not a fan of all of the luxury crap, but a backup camera is really nice. I'm perfectly capable of backing up without one, but they make hooking a trailer up a snap. Another nice feature is power mirrors.

I agree that the armor all could cause the slip of the shoe off the brake pedal ! Safety first, clean or pretty next !

A lot have them now...

New requirement is automatic braking... don't know how long before it becomes standard... it is getting to the point vehicles are rolling computers... great when it all works!

A lot do, sure. What got me wondering if light duty truck will require one was the mention of radio delete, where some (most?) back up camera screens are located, and the fact that some folks want as simple a truck as possible, without the frills.
