Pickups the new Luxury Car?

I did the lease thing a couple of times in past 20 years, bought one of the two after lease ended, but the worry about scratching up the trucks during the lease with my bush driving (for fishing) or minor dings and interior wear had me preferring to buy and now save and pay cash. (with tradein)

I have NEVER sold a car for less than I paid... even after owning it for 10 or 20 years.

I'm the same way, except that I have never bought a new car. A tractor? Yes, but the initial depreciation before I leave the dealership was something I could never get past. I say I drive "JUNK", but I like them. Would rather have 10 $5000. cars than one $50,000 car. And what is the HUGE thing about warranty? I do my maintenance and repairs on everything and just can't get past this. If your brand/breed/style/whatever needs that much repair that you can't sleep without having the comfort of a warranty, . . then that's all the more reason I will keep driving my 14yr old and much older vehicles, because I know I don't spend 2 car payments a year on repairs!

Lets say 4x4 SLT extend cab, purchase for 40k. 5 years 4%. I got 3 myself. At 3 years you owe 17k, at 5 years you owe nothing, need to point that out.
2013 NADA 31.2 sale, 28 trade in, with 35k miles, $14k in equity, need to point that out.
2011 27.5 sale, 24 trade in, 65k miles. $27.5 in equity, need to point that out

More equity on the next truck, because you had a down payment.. Even more equity on the 3rd truck, because the 2nd truck had a down payment.

This is without shopping for much of a deal even. MSRP on my truck was 38k, and I paid around 27k, with 2.9%.

Also if you save some money and develop an emergency fund, you are not as scared of repairs without a warranty.

I still refer to my 14 year old car as the "New" car.

I like convertibles... for a longtime I would buy my next summer's convertible in the fall of dead of winter... cars like Mustangs, GTO, Olds 442, Buick Skylark, MGB and Triumph... spend a little elbow grease, enjoy and then drive around with a forsale sign... helped pay for school.

Rust is never an issue so no worries about the tin worm... also, trade in or no trade in, California collects sales tax of the full selling price... in some other States the sales tax is not charged on the traded in amount and every little bit helps... especially with around 10% sales tax that varies by address.

WI doesn't subtract the rebates from the amount they tax you on. BS. It wasn't worth full price, or they would not have given you a rebate.

Forbes came out with list few days ago on tax hells, CA I think was 2nd, with NY being worse.

15 PAGE RECAP

On Trucks> I prefer a 250-350 or 2500-3500 series truck. The 150 or 1500 series trucks have been domesticated with plastic trim, bumpers, interior compnents and bells and whistles to the point that routine "dings" associated with pick up truck use can cost thousands of dollars. On the same note if you do not have a warranty on a vehicle with less than 100K or 6 years old you are absolutely making a mistake. There are too many complex systems on vehicles today to take the chance.
On vehicles themselves get the 8 ft bed, we just haul too much and in trailering the extra wheel base allows better towing, if you are concerned about not being able to park in the close up spots at Wal-Mart due to turning radius you might want to rethink your purchase.
As far as specifics I am a huge advocate for real steel bumpers front and back on trucks, I know the stylists and the EPA crowd take offense but they take hits from everything from getting boots put on them to get over the bed to deer bouncing off the fronts to morons texting and rear-ending you at a light. ( BTW always keep a hitch in the trailer receiver to soak up the damage) a good bumper quickly pays for itself.
On interiors I like a adjustable seat the material is not a big deal as a work tuck should have a seat cover anyway, I have sat in the seats too often with a tool in a pocket and quickly raised up as I sat to keep it from cutting the seats up. I do like power windows and locks and AC other than that I could care less.

As far as purchasing and leasing> I have a business if we lease our trucks ( and we do) It is a 100% write off No issues with property taxes, warranties, oil changes, recalls just drive it and make money. I think a few people on here have mixed a personal lease with a business lease and do not see the benefits for a business.
On a side note if you have guys who like trucks who drive them I allow them to buy a truck or their truck at the end of the lease at the price they quote us as an incentive, In 16 years every truck we have leased except 3 that were wrecked have been bought by our guys and they like them. Some have been driven over 400K

Letting someone buy their truck at the end of a lease would be a win/win in that at least a little extra care along the way will be afforded the truck.

Not a big plastic bumper fan... everyday, without exception, I see at least one on the side of the highway... saw two last night.

It's too bad a truck buyer can't simply specify chrome bumpers without having to buy the appearance package... at least this is my recollection.

I was on a site with flowchart for leasing or buying. Can you not afford the car you want, lease. Do you want the newest shinniest car, lease. Made me laugh.
