Off road diesel in pickup.

I have heard that they will check for discolored fuel filters as well... the fuel may be long gone but the filter will still be red.

I would drain the tank as much as possible, fill with highway diesel, run it out to empty a few times, refilling each time, then change filters.

Yep, I think that's where the dealership would detect the issue.

I have a large farmer friend that is very diligent about the separation of fuels. He gets checked constantly.

A few years back the state patrol around here would stop at farm auctions and go thru the parking area dipping diesel trucks.

Sounds like another good reason for a locking fuel cap.

Hmmm......... I've never seen or heard of anybody checking anything like that around here. Also I have no idea where I could get off-road diesel around here.

Sounds like a good reason to hang cops as traitors to our country. I am not anti cop, but this violates the 4th Amendment.

In 90s, I knew a guy who ran heating oil in some old diesel car. Personally I would just run it up and not tell a soul. Never know how word can trvel to the wrong person.

When googling low sulfar in tractors, there was debate. One concern was not enough lube for old tractors.

You can get it at gas stations, in areas with logging.

Then again in the Hurricane Katrina aftermath the restriction on Off Road Fuel was lifted for a time.

I have no idea how much explaining the folks would be up against down the road.

Have not used off road in one tractor for 17 years... the previous owner did... I can still see a faint red residue looking down the filler neck...

90% of America doesn't know either. There are people in my community that don't know the difference. That's okay. Saves me a LOT of money on road tax for diesel burned in my tractors.

The ignorance of America is just another example of government taxing you for something you don't even understand. Capitalism at it's finest. :)

I've heard they check the filters, which makes sense, but what if I used my truck (with two tanks, like the old Fords have) with highway diesel on the road and dyed diesel off road? The filter would always be contaminated, but I would be abiding by the law as I understand it.

This is only a theoretical question, by the way.
