Off road diesel in pickup.

You see a post on a message board about somebody said they saw a cop do something illegal and you are ready to hang our law enforcement as traitors?
I will refrain from posting my opinion about that comment.

A police officer shouldn't get a y free rides in the legal system. At a minimum, the same penalty, maybee more for breach of trust, maybee more if the crime was done under the color of law.

So if you ran out of fuel, and popped a few gallons in to get you into town, from a jug of fuel someone gave you,and it turned out the fuel was dyed vs regular when you poured the last splash out?? Is that criminal if you call and tell them,, or B, run some marvel in it for 6 months, its red so thats all you would have to show them ,is the container in the trunk, if they dipped you, but if the fuel in your tank is clear. it would be a tough sell to a court that you were a crook,, and you had a recent receipt saying you bought clear fuel..

Dumped in 5g to get you to town,then filled it with 25? More.. Its heavily diluted at that point, might still show on a color stick, but the next tank would do it.

As far as what to do? I guess if you wanted by the book you could call dot and ask how to pay road tax on 5 emergency gallons of fuel that got you from broke down in the boonies to town. They will either say what to do or laugh and tell you to have a better day. In the case of the latter jot down the name of the trooper they transferred you to, then date and time of the call. On the slim chance that your day comes, whip out that paper

That's a good point. A few years ago an acquaintance of mine ran out of fuel near our home. He walked to our home and asked if I had any diesel fuel. I did, I had 5 gallons of #1 off road diesel in a yellow gerry can. I told him it was #1 diesel as this was in the middle of the summer but I didn't think about it being off-road diesel. I'm sure he drove down into town and filled up with probably 20-25 gallons of clear diesel but..... how red does it have to be to get fined?

The last time FDOT was here sticking tanks, the officer stuck a long stray down into our tanks, pinched it off, and then pulled it out, and them laid it up against a graded color chart.

I was kinda looking over a shoulder so i didn't see the writing on the chart, but presumably there is some sort of allowable / cutoff area where it goes from being an addative colorant or residual, and a violation.
