And then the trip back down...

I almost lost my 08 Sierra Diesel when almost new. I had delivered a Generac generator (not my idea) to a customers cottage and had to negotiate and park on a paved driveway similar in angle to the previous video.

I had it in 4x4 low, put in in PARK on that serious incline and shut it off. A brief moment after getting out, I heard this ratcheting sound, and to my horror saw the truck coming back. I managed to get in and hit the brakes. A friend said, he never saw anyone move that quickly!

The truck would have pushed the genset out of the way, and gone down another embankment, hitting a cottage and a large propane tank.

I talked to GM and never got a satisfactory answer. I didn't want some twenty year old kid messing with my (new) tranny, so I never did anything about it, except start using the parking brake (which I hadn't used that day). I did that for a while, until slipping into my old ways, and now it's seized up, and I dare not touch it. But I keep this possibility in mind.

I'm a Ford/Dodge guy, but was impressed with these vids of a stock GM product taking care of an impressive hill climb!

That was pretty impressive..

A little update on fuel mileage. I live outside of town by a few miles so my driving is mixed rural and town driving. The display was showing 12.7 mpg. I filled up and hand calculated 11.7 mpg. My 3/4 ton Cummins was getting 2 to 3 mpg better. I was hoping for a little better from the 6.0 gas motor but can live with it.

Another bonus of the new truck is warm up times. The Cummins took a long time to warm up. On cold days it took 15 minutes to put out good heat. The truck warms up very fast, just a couple of minutes.

Dave I've been driving my 08 - 6 lt for 6 years now and live 4 miles from town & get about the same mileage on running back and forth . On trips with a heavy camper or trailer the average is 12.5 mpg. Empty on a trip the best ever was 19 mpg but 15 mpg or a little more is the average. Long box, ext.cab 4x4.

I know lots of guys with 6L GMs. They all get the same as you. Most say they can push 16 on the highway if driving right.

Based on the trip home with the truck when I first got it, I think 16 mpg is going to be about the best it will get.

I don't know why GM only offers 4:10 gears? They mixed it up with 3:73 for a year or two, then went back to 4:10. Maybe they will offer more choices with the new engine for2017? Keep hearing a 6.2 gasser built for the HD.

The majority of my driving is mixed, about half rural and half in town, if I drive right I seem to average about 13.5, if I am heavy on the pedal and gas it on starts I seem to get about 12.5 mpg. I have a 2015 Chevrolet 2500 HD 4x4 with the 6.0 gas motor, I use it to pull a 30' gooseneck flatbed trailer and a gooseneck livestock trailer and it pulls both with no problems, all the horror story's about them being powerless and constant downshifting I have not seen, but it is all pretty much flat country that I drive in.
