Sporting purposes? AR's make great hunting rifles. You need to open your horizons a little

I don't hunt with an AR, but am considering it.
- 20" bull barrel in 223, or 204Ruger makes a nice varmint
- 16" or 18" in 6.8SPC makes a great deer rifle. So does 300blackout
- 16" barrel in 458socom or 50 beowolf will take pig, deer, elk, moose...
The AR platform is as available in a myriad of calibers now, not just 223/556. There are great target cartridges, small game cartridges, large game cartridges. 458socom is very close to a factory 45/70.
