I need an AR-15

My opinion of a black gun is they are so popular because of the military / assault / tactical aspect, nothing more. They have been glamorized by the media. I'll put my 11 Savage accurized 338 Lapua up against your black gun, in fact, any black gun, anytime. I can slip in a 30 round mag and be accurate way past any range your black toy can shoot. Short tubed rail adorned black phospate rifles don't do it for me and I've never ever seen anyone hunt out west with one... probably because they cannot shoot distance.

My opinion is that people need to shoot a .338 or .50 BMG at long distances because they have to compensate for the fact that they can't shoot a lighter bullet at the same distance.

Opinions are like buttonholes.

...and yours needs some toilet paper...... Interesting, you suppose I own a 50. I don't. In fact, I hunt with a 308. I've taken elk at 500 yards with a 168 Berger VLD hunter in a Lapua case but thats not here nor there, what is, is you need to wipe your butthole.....

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want an ugly black gun that really serves no sporting purpose. I own and shoot toms of firearms and not one black ugly gunn

No Sporting purpose? I dont think so....been shooting AR platform rifles in competitions for quite a while. Kind of considered a sport. Firearms are used for more than just hunting.

I have taken many groundhogs with my "black gun" out at 400-500 yds. No easy task with any .223 caliber gun, bolt or otherwise.

And nothing mil spec about it either. Stainless barrel isnt mil spec, no FA or dust cover. Upper is 6066 alloy (not mil spec) etc etc

I think as many of us here have commented, the AR platform is a versatile, accurate, and easily maintained line of firearms. I am sorry if you don't like them, and want to stay with "real rifles" and and you feel the need to denigrate those of us that do like them. I don't feel the need to denigrate your "real rifles" or your experiences with them. Heck I have some "real rifles" myself and think they are great. :)

I despise that phrase. Generally, if you say that, I have already tuned you out as noise.

I don't have any trouble recognizing the AR as a legitimate firearm, I just don't understand why any self respecting hunter would use a weapon optimized for rapid fire close quarters combat rather than precise marksmanship. Davy Crockett hunted the same prey we do today and managed perfectly well with a single shot. Seems to me that would be more challenging and make the kill more meaningful both as a hunter and sportsman.

Doc, you can fire just one round out of an AR platform rifle at a time also.:)

OH, and the AR platform is not optimized for close quarters combat. They have tried to improve on that through the years with our current M4 being somewhat better, but closer quarters is not really it's thing. A subgun is a lot better for that.
