Moved trailer jack (so tailgate doesn't hit it)

That upside down receiver hitch is an idea I might use... I have a hitch that I could repurpose and have a nice winch mount perhaps..

I would just buy a receiver from Harbor Freight for $15. It only has to hold the winch and can be much more compact than that big ole' thing. Of course using what you HAVE on hand is sensible too, if you wait you take the loss of "non-use".

Even though the jack is moved you still need to keep I mind to not drive with the tailgate down. My trailer jack is In The same place as your new location and I was driving across the yard to park after unloading stuff. I left the tailgate down and when making a turn the jack made a nice jack shaped crease about two inches deep in the tailgate corner.

That sounds like something I'd do. Thx for the reminder.

Ditto. However I bought the weld on one with the round pipe. Now I can pull the pin and stow it. Plans are to buy more of the weld on pipes so I can move it to the back to use as anti-tip downriggers. Of course then I need 2 jacks for the car trailer. My brother has 2 jacks like this on his pickup box trailer so that it won't tip up when loading and it is unhooked.

I like those too. U can also use them to change a flat if they're mounted behind the axle.

Not finding fault with your method but sharing mine. My clamp on moved the jack just far enough away to clear the tailgate and the swivel makes it easy to stow without having to retract it all the way up.

JD your whole project looks like the easier way. I was focused on what was there, kinda forgot about the benefits of the fold up kind. I coulda built that connection onto my jack easily. Wheel is a blessing & curse ( but if it had a reliable brake....)

newtrailerpics003.jpgI like the way the jack on my trailer is mounted. It has a telescoping foot that is spring loaded to retract it so you only have to jack it up enough to release pressure on it when hitching then pull the pin to retract the foot. Reverse order when unhooking so there is less turning of the crank handle. There is no way to hit the tailgate on it, but with center mounting as it is, you would need to offset a winch a bit.

I have installed a Jack-E-Up on every trailer I have or will ever have. In fact I just installed one on my Son's trailer last weekend. These are wonderful, they allow you to completely remove the jack with just a third of a rotation of the jack.

That guy modified his trailer (extended the tongue a foot). I bet he's kicking himself like me. He could have easily moved the jack rearward at the time to allow for modern 2-foot tailgates.

1720 I couldn't have a separable jack - or it's gone. In a pickup 100 miles from the trailer. Or on the wrong trailer. For me the jack has to be welded/bolted/cabled/chained/pinned to the trailer like a ball&chain.
