I like the way the jack on my trailer is mounted. It has a telescoping foot that is spring loaded to retract it so you only have to jack it up enough to release pressure on it when hitching then pull the pin to retract the foot. Reverse order when unhooking so there is less turning of the crank handle. There is no way to hit the tailgate on it, but with center mounting as it is, you would need to offset a winch a bit.

Yep, that jack is the same style that is used on gooseneck trailers:

I saw a handy bolt on bracket that allows you to use a Three bolt tongue jack .. But it is clamped to the side of the tongue .. You could clamp it inside or outside .. I think they were almost as much as a new jack though
