Running commercial with dot numbers? They will shut you down with a deleted diesel eventually with random roadside dot checks. Thousands of dollars wasted just to save a few more mpg and reliability if running commercial. Everything before 2006 was great!
delete the dpf. problem solved

I was referring to deleting the '12, not a new one. Does DOT actually check the emissions with a tester or just look for the right equipment? I know that there are a lot of Ford 6.0's with factory EGR's with the exhaust side welded shut. Looking at the engine it looks factory but the EGR is closed off.

Delete it then you're all set said:
Until you're caught at a roadside or the dealer won't do your annual safety when they catch it. Some places you can get away with it, but they're wise to it up here now.

We tried some V10's in some of our new F550 and F650 service trucks at work. Fuel mileage and range is absolutely horrible, and compared to the 6.7L diesel they seriously lack power. Only reason for trying them is we can't seem to get more than a year out of the 6.7L before they seize up and cost up to $29K CDN to replace. Doesn't seem to matter if they are deleted or not, they don't last long in the extreme conditions we operate in. It's kind of a tough call as we have had good luck with other brands and their diesels but GM doesn't build anything like the F550 anymore, and Dodge can't provide the same support that Ford does where we work.

Only advice regarding your current truck would be to ensure the software in the ecu is up to date and there may be some updated parts for the emissions system. While you do hear of issues here and there with the dpf and urea systems, they are not near as bad as when they first came out.

I bought the 12' dodge diesel new. That's what I was referring to about the delete. The dot check everything when they feel like it.

Reliability first and fuel mileage second. They (V-10) don't have the torque of a diesel but they get the job done with less maintenance.

In our case the V10's don't work well, they can't make it out into the field to do what they are needed to do simply due to fuel usage and range. Our mechanics work twelve hour shifts and need to be out working not making trips back to the yard to get fuel every few hours. If we could put larger fuel tanks or something it might make it more practical. Again this is just for this application, on the highway they may be ok.

We ran an F450 with the V10 and hated it 250 miles max on a tank usually started looking for fuel at 150 miles in 250 was dead empty. The truck never got better than 7.5 mpg running empty and was usually 6 or 6.5 mpg loaded. Having to stop every 150 miles for fuel was a huge pain.

This is the first I've heard of a large number of 6.7 diesels dieing. Can you elaborate further?

I only work locally so a 40 gal tank is no problem. So far I'm at 10 mpg unloaded and 6 loaded. This is a new truck with only 1400 miles. BUT I can idle and not worry about the extra diesel bs.
