Bought a new tractor today

Bought the truck new in 1984 but now belongs to my oldest son. The first motor was that gutless 6.2 gm diesel but our two sons replaced it with a 1996 Cummins a few years back, along with some upgrades in HP and a 5 speed manual tranny. It's main use now is towing our U-35 excavator and now the new L2501. Ricn

Why oh why doesn't the truck have its own thread? :licking:

I could take a photo or two and post them, tomorrow maybe, getting pretty dark now...As you can imagine, the 12 valve Cummins makes hauling the excavator a dream, great engine. Too bad the EPA ruined something so simple and easy...We have another 12 valve our youngest son has gone completely through and just waiting for a one ton dually 6-speed to come along and needing a motor...

Make it 10 or 12 pics and I'll give you a week! Lol

You can see lots of Ford / Cummins online but you won't find too many Chevys.

Sweet looking tractor and congrats on raising sons that seem to enjoy family involvement.

Hope these post correctly. My two boys get all the credit for reworking our original family 4x4 hauler to something their generation enjoys more and yes, they are into diesel smoke big time. The truck has issues here and there, some rust and several small dents but mechanics are sound with most everything being reworked. They plan to overhaul the body soon but right now its needed to haul their U35 to jobsites...The cummins was a Challenge requiring custom made mounts, also required the lift kit for clearance..

Thanks Tom. The wife and I pioneered here almost 40 years ago now, living in a camper and army tent while building our Log house. This was our dream as young adults, couldn't have done it without her!

I'm 64, retired. I keep very busy taking care of my farm. I think I'm pretty productive and energetic until I have a project that involves my 40-ish Sons. Then I realize how much I've slowed...... ;)

Your much younger than me and although being retired still I get out and help my Sons cut and stack firewood, mow fields and fix fencing. Yes they do most of it! Speed is not my thing now, poky is a better definition.

"where did it go?"... I think all the energy and pep available went into making the gray hair/beard I now have...lol  Just turned 60 and broke my 5th metatarsal and found out on my second dr. visit that it is called a "Jones Fracture". named after the 1902 British MD that originally first wrote about it. I get one more visit in two weeks to see if it is any more healed. If not, the doc has to put a screw in it to hold it for healing. That should be a load of fun for an old man. :( Interesting youtube description. Jones Fracture, proximal fifth metatarsal - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim - YouTube

Actual operation video only about 4 minutes long. Jones Fracture, Percutaneous Screw Fixation by James R McWilliam, MD - YouTube

A lot of people have had this type of injury from sports etc. Just not at 60... :ashamed: One thing about youtube, there is every type of surgery imaginable on there....lol When I had to have the titanium plate put in my neck/discs fixed, I made the mistake of going and watching that surgery on there. Nope, shouldn't have looked. Terrorized me until I had the surgery. :D

I call it working "smarter". Make them think you've slowed down more than you have so they do most of the work. And get you a beer when they are done. :D
