OK some pics to share again.

This one is the gate lying down. Couple things to note, none big. First is on the front of the gate, between it and the tongue of the trailer I added a rubber bumper to save the paint on the tongue. Next is where I notched the corner next to the trailer, to allow it to pivot downward.

Here is a close up of the notched corner. I notched it after making it just a 90 deg corner. Not on purpose, but due to an after thought. I haven't cleaned up the welds, so it's a bit messy. If you look closely, you can see the pin that goes through the pivot rod and the square tubing that is welded to the frame. On the left, you might see the flat washer I welded to the pivot rod, this is to make it easier to remove the rod when I want to remove the gate completely.

Here's the same corner in the upright, or closed position. It's a little easier to see some of the things I mentioned.

Now I need to build the slots and spring loaded rods, like the back gate. I have not made my mind up whether or not to change the lower hinge to the spring loaded pins. The front gate warped when I did this mod, because I had to do quite a bit of it after cutting it loose from the welded corners. Not sure I want to deal with that again. At this point I might use it the way I made it, and see how it goes.

After I clean up the welds, make the slots and spring latches, I will put the sheet metal on the gates, and it will be done. Looking forward to getting it out of the shop at this point. I need the space for other stuff. I have an onboard air compressor job to do on my truck.

My welds look horrible, I know, but they are what they are . It's a work in progress.

I'd like to point out something you might not of noticed, your welds look horrible, it's probably cause by El-nino......
I see the front gate rest down on the trailer tongue, but what's holding the rear tail gate level, or have you got that far.

Sorry for the long delay, nothing, yet. I still haven't covered them yet either. Too many other projects got in the way. I have been using it some though. I also have decided to find the thinnest and tightest expanded metal to use to cover the gates with, instead of the galvanized I had originally planned. I think that will work out better in the long run for me.

Here's a pic of it this morning, hauling some eucalyptus I split. Just pulled it in front of the house for a photo op . The other heavy duty uses so far have been hauling the granddaughter (13) in it and her dog (sniffing the back of the trailer). I put a 1 7/8 ball receiver on it so I can haul it with the quad, mower or truck if need be.

Now that is the size lawn I like. Not this 7 acre stuff. Two minutes with a string trimmer and done!

:)

PS: What's the riding mower used for?

LOL we have 5 sections that size around the house. I can mow them all in about 45 min about 1.5hrs if I trim , that is with a walk behind mower. I do like that part especially since it gets mowed weekly, most of the year. We didn't go any larger cause we ARE on a well. So far my well has held up but if this drought starts to affect it, the grass will go bye bye. We are in a 5th year of drought in this area.

When we bought and built here, the average rain was between 30-40" a year, but the high for the last 5 years has been 17". Our lakes are drying up, big time.

The riding mower is for the rest of the 3 acres I mow during the wet season here (winter).

Also, when I use it to dump a load, so far I have just removed the rear gate. Takes about 20 seconds to do.
