Anyone actually flipped a HST CUT pulling from the 3pth?

I have not read all posts so somebody already said this. The pivot point of the tractor is where the tires meat the ground (it is not the center of the axle). Therefore the lower is the hitch point (tow bar) the less likely is possibility of backward flipping. Now look at the geometry of pulling from tow bar versus the 3 point. If the front wheels lift from the ground the end of the tow bar goes lower (it is situated farther back behind tractor pivot point) and thus decreasing possibility of flipping. If the tow bar touches the ground the rotating force is zero). 3 point hitch does the opposite it will rise allowing the tractor to flip.

I would encourage you to read the thread and see why that is beside the point.

Right now there is probably several thousand pounds of roof over your head. Could cause serious injury to you if it fell. Are you actively concerned it might fall? What about when you nail a picture to the wall? Surely that is tempting fate!

Of course you can pull from 3 point but you should understand the implication. There are things you can't pull from 3 point and there are things you can pull pretty much safely. In example I have ball on my box blade I use to pull trailer with. But when I want to pull a small tree from the ground I use draw bar.

The 3pt lower arms on both the Fordson and the Hurliman attach/ are positioned lower than the draw bar (when lowered)

It's the link behind the steering wheel that needs consideration

Just to keep the thread somewhat sober. I've had wheels come up, and so keep my foot on the clutch pedal when climbing hills with a load of any kind on back. It's hard to get it right so the clutch slips just enough, as it can get exciting quickly. And on that, it didn't happen to me, but.... an older gentleman that had farmed the place about three miles south was pulling a trailer up into his yard (Hilly lands here in this area) Something got hung up, the tractor reared and pitched the fellow off between the tractor and the wagon. Then the wagon ran him over. Killed him dead right there. Happened over five years ago, but it reminds me that the unexpected is the thing that gets a fellow. Keep your wits about you!

I can't see your location using my iPad but are you by any chance from OK? You used the words "dead right there". I have commonly seen DOA for dead on arrival on accident reports for accidents I investigated, but the only time I saw a police report with DRT was in OK. I questioned a lawyer in an aside not wanting to appear too stupid and he wasn't familiar with the term either. He asked a local attorney who said it was a common Oklahoma term in accident reports - "When I arrived at the scene I found the victim DRT" - Dead Right There. Didn't need a doctor to tell me. In this case the operator fell off his hydrostatic drive machine that was in cruise and was crushed by the implement - no roll over.

To validate several points in this thread, I have personally never been killed by flipping an HST tractor, and I don't have any personal experience to relate.

However, when I purchased my most recent tractor the gentleman that delivered it saw my trailer hitch attachment sitting beside the driveway and commented to be extremely careful with it because he had recently gone to retrieve an identical tractor to mine and bring it into the dealership for repairs after the owner "walked it out from under himself on the back wheels" and that with a hydro it doesn't "feel" like you can. At the time, I thanked him for the information, but never inquired as to any more of the story. That being said, I do have a hitch frame for my 3pt hitch for moving my trailers EMPTY when I need to get one out and hook it up. Now, when doing any number of other tasks where there is a chance of taking a strain against the tractor, I choose to go with the teaching I received growing up that you never take a load against a 3-point unless you're using an implement designed to do so. I'd rather stick to the rule of thumb than try to calculate the justification for leaving the drawbar in the barn.

I tend to look at it this way: What could go wrong, what are the chances, and is there another method I can use to prevent it? Generally, I find there are simple, logical things I can do to prevent bad things from happening, whether I personally believe they can or not. Based on my personal experience with HST, I'm not sure I could flip it backwards because, like the driver said, it doesn't "feel" like it would. Based on a simple warning from a kind fella, I believe it can and has happened. If I wait until I have first-hand knowledge of it, then either myself or someone I know has quite possibly been seriously hurt. Regardless, I choose to avoid finding out for myself because I, for one, love my wife's husband.

Next time I'm at the dealership, I'll talk to the guys and see if anyone remembers the machine the delivery driver told me about and the circumstances it happened under.

Hey, has anyone here ever died after jumping out of a plane without a parachute?
Didn't think so.

I did but it was my fault, I forgot to use the draw-bar.

("Just to keep the thread somewhat sober")<<<<<<<<<<<To late, I must of passed out from all these intoxicating posts and what's worse I forgot what this threads about, something about tipping a tractor over I think.
