Hydraulic squeals when lifting heavy load

Not sure where the screen is located on your machine, but I scratched/cut the screen on the threads when I was removing it (and it was a little pricey to replace). It was held in place by O-rings and I kept trying to turn it to continue to back it out, so I was spinning the mesh part on the threads. Learned my lesson and the second change was a lot more successful.

So be extra careful if you are removing it.

Thanks Johnny B. I will be changing the oil and cleaning the screen in the next week or two. I will report back what I find out. Hopefully it is the Traveller fluid and not something else. If it is that will put to rest the old debate about the different brands of fluid.

Good luck with the fluid change and keep us posted.

I'm sure you can find a quality brand fluid locally, but if you are having trouble, I picked up a 5-gal bucket of Mobil 424 Tractor Hydraulic Fluid for $70.53 which included shipping from the following online retailer:

I'm not going cheap this time. I've got 10 gallons of Permatran 821XL on the bench in my shop. Just gotta find the time to change it.

Got everything ready to change the fluid tonight after my day job and wanted to make sure that this was the screen filter that I need to remove and clean. 20160606_180212[1].jpg

I changed the fluid tonight and cleaned the screen filter. There weren't many metal shavings on the screen. I took it out after changing the fluid and moved a bunch of gravel with no squealing at all. The squealing was clearly caused by me being a tight ***** and buying the cheap TSC hydraulic fluid instead of the permatran III.

Glad to "hear" you found the problem. That makes at least two of us who had a squealing problem with the TSC fluid.

You guys have the current experience with various brands of fluid. However, I have to say I am a skeptic. I can see some equipment being designed for "low viscosity" or "high viscosity" hydraulic fluid having nothing to do with brands or "quality." I just doubt there is proven good versus bad among commercial hydraulic fluids that would cause one to produce squeal and the other no squeal. I predict that whatever it was that caused your squeal will be back regardless of what brand fluid you use.

I have a Mahindra 4035, when I did the initial trans/hydro filter change at 100 hrs, I replaced the original fluid with Traveller fluid, and then the leaks seemed to multiply. The leaks were fixed by the dealer, but I am going to drop and change the Traveller fluid and replace it with Mobil fluid 424. We'll see if it helps.

You very well could have had been sucking air on the suction side of the hydraulics and seated it better after the service... Also my 1540 does the same and is a similar system. when I got it there was a lot of water in the fluid were it looked like chocolate milk.... a change of filter and oil helped but soon brought on slight leaks on my loader cylinders and I also have a 4wd bearing going out at the rear of the main shaft.. the loader lets more air in the system than I would like but I will live with it until winter. The only time I hear it though is when I lift 5x6 bales on 3point.. which is pushing the limits of the hydraulics in the first place and putting the relief valve to work.
