In order to "flip", the tractor would need to move "backwards", towards the load.

A difficult thing to happen. possible, but difficult

We humans are incredibly capable of assessing perceived risk. Like flying, or hang gliding,

Cal, I am not sure if this is a very clever sentence and you agree with me or if you disagree and accidentally put "perceived" in the sentence.?

'As we get into our automobiles and drive to the grocery.....

We all know someone who has perished in an auto wreck. Accepted mortality...

Just in case you do think that we are good at assesing risk, here's a brief lay person article you might find interesting.

Yes, as summarized by the quote: "Hold my beer, watch this..."

My answer to you is a "No". B U T... I have had my old Fordson-Dexta absolutely vertical. Not sorta close, but straight up and down!

So, without actually flipping one, I came close enough to flipping that I became a believer.

Same thing with the same tractor, cutting ditches. I've had it at a 45*++ angle - steep enough to just step off of it with no effort. Those were my younger and more foolish days, not believing that one could actually turn a tractor over.

Appreciate your input but the dexta was a dry clutch geared tractor. With a VERY real risk of flipping backwards! And without a ROPS and seatbelt there was a VERY significant chance of serious injury.

This thread was about HST equipped CUTs. With which no one in this large community has reported even knowing of someone who has flipped one (except for one third hand 'might-possably-have-been' story.

When I started this thread I really though it would be rare but there would be something... at least second-hand. :confused3:

You want another "sorta like"?

I flipped a Cub Cadet lawn tractor over backwards on myself by going up a steep incline and hitting a rock with the right front tire which lofted the front end which was very light to begin with. It was not a Hydrostat transmission, it was a Variable speed pulley tranny. Much like a CVT except way simpler, but similar concept. As the "tractor" came up it trapped my right foot on the go pedal and I could not let off. The "tractor" (about 400 lbs) turned over backwards on me and I threw it up off of me an to the side. Yes I am pretty good sized. It landed on its feet and took off down hill, I got up and gave chase running downhill and caught up with it and managed to turn its steering wheel more uphill until it stopped.

So there you go, another story, that doesn't really fit the bill of what you asked for..:)
