Agree, no thread sealant necessary for the oil or hydraulic plugs, but a couple wraps of teflon tape is good for the front axle drain plugs. I don't find the front tires to be in the way, but putting the tractor up on jack stands is handy, otherwise the drain bolts of the front axle are very low and hard to get a pan under. The hardest part of the service for me was putting my rear tire on! They are loaded with Rimguard, so weigh over 100 lbs each. So I only take off what is absolutely necessary!

In part one I made a note that I forgot to turn on the camera when I cleaned the screen; however, I have a few of the screens laying around. I will go over leveling and the screen in a brief part 3. Thank you for the input.

Rider, yes I noticed you'd mentioned the omission of screen cleaning in part 1. And some of us forgot to do it at the time of the fluid changes. And maybe go back to do it while the hydro fluid is still clean . . Drain it out enough to pull the screen and clean it and then put the drained fluid right back in again. Possibly something for an "oops" segment on a future "summary part 4" which could also reshow those more hidden grease fittings again . . Or the process of checking tire pressures with loaded tires . . Or choices of grease to use (not brand) . . Or places that some types of lubricating sprays or cleaners might be used . . . .or key bolt tightening locations lol.

Back to the adjusting of mmm decks . . one other issue is the adjusting of mmm maximum lift height. Certainly the height knob is obvious . . But I'm referring to the actual deck height before lowering even done. As an example . . any adjustments that put the mmm at its highest height to maximize ground clearance or provide a better range of choices for the 5 settings on the height adjustment knob. Roller adjustments are pretty straughtforward . . I'm actually referring to the full-lifted deck height adjustments.

One last thought . . The proper use and positioning of jack stands or lift stands or ramps for front and/or back raising to use with these servicing "adventures" lol. Where they can go without undo pressure but on weaker or sensitve parts etc..

I think your videos are very helpful to both rookie and more experienced users alike Rider.

Is Off Road Diesel OK to use in these tractors? I hope so, because that's what I've been filling with, and it's 50 cents a gallon cheaper for the cheap skates like me.

Yes, it is 100 percent the same thing other than taxes and color.

Got my 50 hour service done this morning. I went with the Permatran 821 hydraulic oil, and massey engine oil. My engine oil was black, the hydraulic oil looked fine.

Thanks rider for posting the mower deck up in the air, inspired me to do the same, except I used my deer hoist instead. My mulching deck had an inch or so of "mud" caked on the underside of it. Cleaned it up pretty good, and let it dry out.

Scut 4 big bucks . . . on several other threads I wrote about the benefit of using a spray polymer to greatly reduce any buildup on mmm decks and blades and similar. Its especially true with mulching decks of all kinds.

Note: a spray polymer is a superior product. Its not "pam" or wd40 or teflon sprays.


Rider . . I think you would appreciate just how unique and beneficial the Masdey 2315 mulching deck is.

I have the 60 inch side discharge deck. It is a good deck and is very well built; however, I have to use my lawn sweeper to get up grass clippings. This adds an additional 1 hour to my mowing routine. On the flip side, I use the grass clippings as compost for my garden.

I used to "bag" too often on our home lawn (about an acre) . I say too often because bagging takes extra time but its also on and off the mower a bunch. I used the lawn clippings as an edger between our lawn adge and the woods next to it . . and it worked fine for that.

But I don't believe in fertilizing lawns to make tjem grow . . its hard on worms and hard on the natural growth curve of lawns. Mulching (if done well) is a more natural fertilizing process and of course I use herbicides to keep weeds away.

But thats also why I've never used grass clippings in gardens other than than as an edger or walk way . . Because weed killers sprayed on lawns or used in weed n feed fertilizers effects plants and vegetables imo.

And with the mulcher . . the wife doesn't get grass sprayed into our rock gardens or flower gardens (you can't "aim" the chute away everywhere lol).
