Although a fan of R-1's; for the uses you mentioned I agree with others that the R4's may serve you better overall.

On hard/dry surfaces, there is little difference in traction. When things soften up....like plowed fields, or in the spring thaw with the "smeary" on top, or in full blown muck, or deep snow......R1's have twice the traction IMO.
For instance I just moved some rocks off a side of the lawn with a 10,000 lb tractor. The ground is dry and hard, however so nary a scratch.

Probably had a much needed 1-1/2" in the last 3 days.
Yard still firm enough not to rut, but it leaves cleat marks. And getting in the garden results in 10# boots after a few steps
Good. ... The larger diameter gives a more compliant ground contact for ride and traction.Yeah they really bite in and get down to the solid ground.
I think I'm going with R1's... Against the popular vote! Haha
