That may be right, but I though I have seen here some 3940's with 854 loaders on them. But I could be wrong. Maybe they were just something a dealer put on.:confused3:
The L4240 and up have a larger front axel to handle the 854;never heard of one on a L3940.Tractor data list the 724 for the L3940.Either way very nice tractor you should buy it.

Interestingly enough, I have seen more than a few Kubotas for sale pictured in front of that same red barn as the smokin' deal for $1500! No wonder they sell so many!! I looked online for the OP's tractor, but couldn't find anything that looked like it. Must be a private sale?

I am not familiar with the Grand L tractors.
Is it an optional upgrade package available on specific L series models?
Or, do all tractors of a specifie model (like the 3940) come equipment with all of the Grand L upgrades and
features? So all 3940's would be Grand L's?

All 3940's are Grand L's. There is no way to make a standard L into a Grand L. They are two different lines of tractors. A 3240 or 3540 or 3940 are all Grand L's with just different engine and loader choices, they are all Grand L's. Just like the 30 series before the 40 series. All heavier built and more features than a standard L of the same horsepower.

With the weight of this tractor, how important is rear ballast when carrying a load in the bucket?

I know how my B7800 handles while doing loader work and during normal operation-a bit tippy.

How will it feel working on a tractor of this size and weight, comparatively?

I assume with this weight and R4's it will tear up a lawn?

Weight is really important on any tractor and the GL is no exception. I "can" use the FEL on my L5740 with just fluid in the tires, without it the FEL is not much use. I do a lot of loader work in the hills and put a heavy implement on the 3PH.

The "feel" will initially be significant, but you acclimate quickly and I believe any tractor shrinks upon delivery. When I looked at mine on the lot, I told my wife, "We don't need anything that BIG", we had been interested in a L35/3940 and found a good used L5030. In a couple of days of use it seemed small. I guess everything is relative.

Depends on your soil, R4s on our L5740 don't harm our yard as long as I don't turn really sharp.

Soft, wet ground will compact with almost any tractor's weight, R-1's being the worst, then R-4's and even turfs will leave some compression marks in soft ground. Dry ground, or lawn, if you will, is generally okay with tractor usage. Our L3130 with loaded rear R-4's wasn't unstable with modest loader weights and nothing on the back, but the lighter L3400, unloaded turfs, absolutely needs a counterweight for anything heavy in the loader. Keeping all loads low makes a significant difference in "stability".

This has been an excellent learning process, thanks.

So, what is approximate price differencebetween a standard L-series, and a Grand L with comparable hp?

Beginning to realize why so many owners choose the L over the B series. With the extra weight, size, capacities, etc., the
price is not much more for the larger stronger tractor.

I have an L3940. Paid $23 for it, and feel I got a *great* deal. It was about 14 months old with 150 hours on it.
The 524 and 724 are the loaders that it came with, so the 724 is the "big" one. I also have the 724.

Personally, I love the tractor. I do feel my loader pressure is on the low side, and someday I hope to remedy that. Even with loaded tires, ballast is good. I have the round-back bucket, which I think is an upgrade, but either way....

I was looking at new L3901s, and I am SO SO SO glad that I got a pre-emissions tractor. For my use, regens would be a complete PIA.

Not sure what they're asking, but I'd be all over it......
