Big difference in turning radius: Kioti NX5510 vs Kubota MX5200 vs Mihindra 2555

It should be measured from center to farthest point out because with equipment you need to know that you're not going to hit a fence or tree or barn. (so edge of hood)

With road cars it should be to avoid hitting curbs (for u-turns etc)

kromc5, many thanks for that.

According to Kioti (confirmed with specifications on their website), the turning radius for both the NX5510CH and NX6010CH (cab HST) is 9.8' with brakes. The non-cab models (both NX5510H and NX6010H [HST]) lists 13.1' with brakes.:confused2:

Getting those real-world numbers from kromc5 helps. I'd be interested in seeing what Kubota MX5200 and Mahindra 2555 owners can get without brakes. I'm kind of assuming that it doesn't matter whether they have a cab or not: why this matters with Kioti has me totally dumbfounded.

I know the specs are what the manufacturers publishes, but let's think critically. Which is more likely, that the same tractor when equipped with a cab can turn a in a 40" smaller circle, or that Kioti messed up the specs?

I can't say that's the case, but the first option just doesn't seem to make sense. For it to be that different, there's gonna have to be several components that are different. When you go to buy steering parts for those models, does Kioti have two entirely different sets of parts for open station vs. cab models?

Kioti is noted for making errors in specifications tables. I don't know why, but it has been noted several times.

Called up the dealer and, as luck would have it, a Kioti rep was there. The rep didn't know the answer, but stated that there's no difference between the cab and non-cab models (we all thought this would be obvious). Said they'll get back to me to let me know what the answer is from Kioti.

This error just seems like a big whopper. I realize that mistakes can be made, but when you're in a tight market you ought to make sure your sales info is good/clean. I shouldn't have to expect to dyno machines or prove loader lift capacities, I shouldn't have to prove turning radius specifications either. I will, however, take a paper error over a hardware error :)

If you want, I'm happy to measure non-break assisted, non-4wd turning radius this weekend. But to where? Outside tire tracks?

Yeah, without knowing how each manufacturer is measuring it's hard to know whether we're doing apples-to-apples. On one hand I can see where one wants to know how close one can get circling something (of just turning at the end of a row. And then there's the issue of turning before you hit something on the outside (or fall into a ditch): what joefromga notes above.

Maybe the industry should agree on better standards for measuring things.

At any rate, I suppose I'll be happy to see Kioti get it's own numbers corrected so they don't look messed up like they do currently.

Some things are more important to me than others and I honestly never rely on published numbers for them. WHen I go tractor shopping I fully expect and demand a full test drive and am always armed with the tools or misc items needed to fully test the machine for most things.

I've looked through my owners manual several times and I think that for the most part it is accurate. They reversed the turning radius specs for braked versus non-braked. The other specs seem to be in line except the total weight specs is listed the same for both 2WD and 4WD with no mention of additional weight such as ballast or FEL included.

I don't think manufacturers print incorrect information intentionally. Some of it is lost in translation and Metric versus English measurements. I do think that for the most part salesmen are just salesmen and don't know a whole lot about the product they are selling. The know the talking points but not the specifics. And I think that in some instances they get mixed up on certain points due to changing product lines and multiple product line. Still no excuse but that is the way it is.
