Ford to try their hand at a diesel 1/2 ton?

Read your last piece...it's purely there just to bash Ford, just like you. Ford is in a better place for CAFE standards in full-size pickups than any other manufacturer. Love this note at the end of your last piece. If they have to make that statement, then it's obvious the article was intended to make Ford look bad from the start.

Well, I commend your enthusiasm for Ford, but you have to face facts, fords issues are with sales numbers, where their sale numbers come from and their profits. Their F150 being their bread and butter, and EPA regulations on trucks are going to tighten even more, and Ford will be effected disproportionately. That's what I would come away with from article. Fords not stupid, they know what's coming and hence the extreme measures, aluminum body work, dump V8's, convince customers there is no difference, it's all part of the plan to comply with EPA. What's beginning to be pointed out are the differences, and there are differences. Looks to me like the F150 might return the little under powered half ton urban commute pickup it always was....As long as one sheet of plywood fits in bed for home projects that's all it to do on the pickup side. Yep, the fact that the F150 has more payload, more towing, better fuel economy, and most torque of any vehicle in the segment sure makes it look that way.

LOL. I love reading these slap fights. Everybody thinks their brand is best, that is for sure. But of all the fanboys I think Ford wins with not only the highest number of fans on this site but also with the most dedicated. Some sound like commercials when they post and others will tell you they run a fleet for Fords and never once has one required anything but fuel and regular maintenance. Heck one got so bad a couple of weeks ago a Ford fanboy was claiming the 6.0 diesel was bulletproof. Seriously?? Then a bunch of guys who hardly have a scratch in the bed of their truck argue about aluminum beds holding up to long term use. Or that aluminum costs the same to repair as steel does. Or arguing that the Dodge 1/2 ton diesel pickup won't haul thier 300 pound wife and camping gear because of payload issues.

Anyhow in the end you guys are not going to change anyone's mind with all this. For the most part people's minds are already made up so getting all worked up with these slap fights is a waste of time for you and for the people who read the posts insulting back and fourth.

If one vehicle was really that much better than all the rest there wouldn't need to be so many manufacturers, but there is for some reason. I guess that Ford, Dodge, GM, Toyota, Nissan, etc.. must all make pretty good trucks these days. The problem is they all cost too much!

No I thought it was DP who was claiming the 6.0 was bulletproof but if you claim to have said the same thing I will take your word for it.

I do not enjoy watching grown men "slap fight" over brands of pickups, tractors, etc... It gets old because it repeats itself over and over and because of the fanboys loyalty to thier brand you can't trust anything they say because they always exaggerate to make thier brand seem better. So essentially the people who are looking for good honest information can't find any because it's all biased.

I haven't looked at the 2016/2017 numbers, but there was a 2015 Dodge 1500 (4 door cab, short bed 4x4 Eco Diesel IIRC) that had a sub 800# payload), so that argument does have merit.

I mostly agree. I wouldn't buy a Dodge as they still don't seem to have figured out how to rustproof their vehicles (3 year old pickups with rusted out wheel wells anyone?) and as has been said, their payload is lacking.

Well have been a suburban owner for a long time, first two were 2500's, all have been 4x4, so my interest in EPA standards and watching V8's disappear from Ford are alarming. Current one is 2009, but is up in rotation for replacement after 130k. Ford is out, no V8, another suburban is possibly but 5.3 is underpowered, can't get 6.2 anymore and the new 3500HD suburban is fleet vehicle only. GMC and Cad have the 6.2 but styling in Cad is weird, and both tow same or less then chev with 5.3. Kind of done with American problems, looking hard at Toyota Land Cruiser. HS
