We seem to get city folks moving out here to the country that think it is okay to let their little dogs out at night "to go potty" before bed... Seems they all put up "dog missing" posters before long. Coyotes served city dog, all fat and delicious. City folks do not understand they put coyote bait out and the coyotes were glad to have some..
Our little Boston Terrier is trained to stay in our yard (we have one acre plus), but I always go out with her at night. She has no compunction about chasing possums, raccoons, skunks, cats, etc and I certainly don't want her getting into a tussle with any of them, especially a coyote or even a fox.
The big problem I have with city folk is that the move to the country or the suburbs and they treat their home like rental property and it looks like a pig stye. They mow every three months whether it needs it or not, and their whole yard is a compost heap. I guess they like the patina of peeling paint...what you can see of it through the 20 foot high shrubs.
