Hey Guys, I have a stupid question. I just bought a Kubota B2320 HST for our 5 acres and cabin in the mountains.
I have never used an hst tractor before and would like to know if there are any secrets, tricks, etc to learn. It sure is small compared to my other tractors, both gear drive, but I wanted small for the manuverablity. I took it out today for an hour and played with it, and it sure is different than what I am used to. But, I kinda like it... Any imput will be appreciated. Thanks

The go pedal is not an accelerator. It is more a seamless "gearshift". Pushing it a little gives you a low gear. Pushing it a lot a higher gear. ... Your ranges are true gear changes, allowing greater force to be applied with the seamless gearshift, but lowering your max travel speed.

The root is that your go pedal varies the displacement of the hyd pump that supplies fluid to the hyd motor that drives the actual gears powering the wheels. There is a PRV between the pump and motor. Max torque from the motor is thus limited by the PRV. But if you go down in your true gear range the multiplication of motor torque afforded by the gearing lets you seamlessly push harder but at reduced top speed.

Ahhh... That's good to know. Less push, more power? and more push, less power more speed???

I did some editing while you were replying. Pls take a look and see if you have the same question.

In other words, yes. Exactly.

If you understand that concept and are willing to set the throttle up a little ways and go play around, you will find the HST incredibly simple and intuitive use.

I honest to God have no idea what you just said. I'm basically a Carpenter, not an industrial mechanic. So...push easy and steady, don't floor the go pedal like a foot throttle. :newhere:

Yes the go pedal is a trade off between speed and power. You need to learn to use a combination of the pedal, range selector and throttle to get what you want.

Too bad.... But yes. If you can ask a question I will help.

Now that I understand. My RTV is basically like that, but feels a lot different.

I think I will. Are there instances where it would make sense, for the sake of the tractor, to run M with little pedal push vs L with more pedal push? Am I making sense?
