Why do people think it's okay to call/text late?

I sold a lot on CL and never give out the phone number. Buyers use the e-mail option provided so I can call them back after I check my e-mail at my convenience. Then they either give me their number or I e-mail back and get their phone number. Never had a problem with CL untimely calls.

I am hesitant to use email only. If I am browsing Craigslist for something to buy, or services I need....I have to want something real bad before I will reply to an e-mail only item.

Been far too many instances where you never get a reply back. Or the reply comes a day or two later when I am no longer interested, no longer have time, or no longer need item in question as I have found something elsewhere.

Given a history of that, if someone don't give a phone number, I don't give the item a second look. And know many who feel the same way.

So my fear would be potential customers would have the same mentality.

I don't even accept e-mails now. Back when I allowed both email and phone....I'd get maybe 1 non-spam email for every 100 calls. But I'd get maybe 5 spam emails as a week from some spam-bot "wanting to help grow my business"

The issue is the mass number of people I could potentially get a call from. Far more people than I want to put in my contact list.
Mass number of people???

OP -
Several of us have suggested that you put a time to call or text in your CL ads but you seem resistant to that.
Is there some reason you don't want to advertise with limiting hours?

You dont think ~300-400 people is a mass number of people to program into your contacts or what? To me, thats alot of people, who I dont even have a number for most of them.

Not that I am resistant to doing that.....and have done that in the past. Dont seem to help. Someone dumb enough to call at midnight, isnt gonna care what you put in the ad for reasonable calling hours. So I omit that from my ad sometimes....giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Sadly, experience has taught me that some people don't want a solution....they just want to *****!

Experience has taught me that somethings just do not have a solution. Just too many idiots in the world. And sometimes the best thing we can do is just let it out (vent/rant......or ***** as you so eloquently put it.)

Experience has taught me that you have a bunch of bozos on Craigslist.

If you want to decrease the amount of phone calls from bozos, don't advertise on Craigslist.

There are enough bozos in the world without craigslist, I assure you.

That said, if you're advertising a service on craiglists for hire, I could how one could make some points that the business being advertised isn't exactly a "professional business" :D

Yep, craigslist is a risk. Lots of bozo's. Thats to be expected. But its not my only source of advertisements. I have business cards at lots of local places, ads in the paper, other local websites and craigslist groups, etc etc. But probably at a rate of 10:1.....craigslist is by far the most successful for generating new clientele. So I will take the occasional bad with all the good.

The purpose of this thread wasnt to ask for solutions, it was to vent and get it off my chest. I feel it is very rude and inconsiderate to call or text someone at 11:59PM. But its clear judging by the tone of this thread that I must be a minority and that many feel this is 100% acceptable practice.

So okay.....while I feel it may be rude.....many people feel it is not. So I'll live with it. Life goes on.
