Why do people think it's okay to call/text late?

Yes...another solution indeed. But not without drawbacks. Carrying around a second phone....added expense, etc. Not worth it for me given the relatively few (maybe 6 a year) inconsiderate calls/texts I get.

Like I said, I personally am not looking for a solution. Just wishing the 6 people a year that think it's okay to make contact at 11pm-midnight....would learn some manners and respect

Agree 100%. I recently took out some ovens and a friend suggested I sell them on CL for $50. I said no thanks, they go to recycle rather than having someone that needs to buy ovens for $50 on my property. No CL flakes on my property, thank you.

Whenever I sell something, I meet them with it at a nearby parking lot. No strangers in my yard, and never have to give directions 15 times and they still get it wrong.

Very interesting thread. I would NEVER consider sending a text to someone the same as calling their phone. To me it's like sending an e-mail. Some people would have their computer ding them when they receive an e-mail. Some people have their phones ding when there is a text. They are settings that people like to turn on and off.

Calling a phone number to me is VERY different. They are often left on as there are emergencies in which people would like to be available 24/7 to receive. I would not assume someone to turn off their ringer on a cell or a landline if that was their only phone. I would expect people to turn off the ding of the e-mail or text if they were looking to not be disturbed.

What is rude and what is normal varies. To me ANY telemarketer or political caller is rude.

I have a late 70 something year old friend. He's sharp, but an I-Phone addict. Texted me at 2 am new years eve to with me a happy whatever. I had been in bed by eleven. Then a few months later sent me a picture of his Massey 35 cab project at about the same time. I thought he might be in medical distress and desperately tried to reach him at first without success. I contemplated calling his son. When I did reach him, he said he had just gotten up to go pee and thought he would reach out!

So, do I send him a picture of my new roof early one morning? Maybe at 4?

These phones belong in a HUGE pile! Just like Pol Pot did!

Second phone is a royal pain. Got a personal one and one supplied by work that I have to carry at all times except on vacation. At this point I would love to go back to a land line and ditch the cells

Apparently a lot of people are being abused by their employers in this respect. It's different if you have a financial stake in the company. But being on-call, should pay you, while you await a possible call. I remember how I used to get to upset that I would smash my pager. Told them it fell out of my belt while running across the street and got run over. Not a Union man, but fair is fair!

I was a salaried employee for 27 years and on-call 24/7/365 with a company provided pager or cell phone. I didn't get anything extra for being on call. It was in the job description, so I knew what I was getting into. All hourly people that are on call get X dollars for every day they are on call. That's not required, its a courtesy. And anyone, salaried or hourly, gets a stipend from the company for using their personal cell phone for on-call duties. That's probably required by law.

Anyhow, here's one example of what happens when a company tells you you're on call with your own cell phone....
