Broke tilt cylinder rod and bent the other

Sorry. It's like when I see an Ad. Four Tires, $100.00. Drives me nuts. And I was not referring to this op. Just, I had no sense what size of machine (and too lazy to look it up) . In some fields, like construction, everyone knows what a 580K is, but in this market, there are just too many makes and models.

Anyway, I can't believe there was sufficient traction and power on a machine of this size to do this damage without employing momentum.

Since ithe forum says "Mahindra owning/operating", I thought the brand would be obvious.

Not many people on here pay attention to what forum a post is in.

We simply browse either "new posts" or "todays posts" and could careless what forum something is posted in.

As to the cylinders breaking/bending during a back drag.....knock on wood I have never had that happen.....and I do alot of back dragging. But when getting near vertical with that cutting edge, I try to keep it light. But have gotten too aggressive on a couple of occasion.....on those occasion, it cost me a hydraulic hose each time, but never any cylinder damage.

Any brand can do the same damage to itself if the operator is not paying attention or simply is not understanding what is going on with the machine. It is not rocket science but it is something that must be learned. I have a buddy here at work and he treats his tractor like it was an M1 Abrams tank and is indestructible (and it shows). Yes he has had to make unscheduled repairs because of his actions and he just laughs about it. "A fool and his money are easily parted."

My cut has loaded rears and as well I have a 300# rear weight.
More than a few times I have had the rear end off the ground without damage to cylinders.
I also have rolled rocks twice the bucket contents by using the bucket heel to lever them along.
The one thing I don't ever do is ram or bash into rocks or other objects, always simply let hydraulics do the work.
It is MHO that the sharp blows and sudden stoppage is what damages mechanical things.

About the only thing that can happen using hydraulic power is to cause a relief valve to open to bypass or at worst rupture a weakened hose.

PILOON's post proves it's the operator and not the machine. He knows what his machine can and cannot do before damage happens.

A good operator can often get away with doing a little more with a machine than he should. Dynamic loads are the biggest issue it seems, where a person uses momentum to overcome a lack of power/weight/capacity.

TBN is sure a good learning spot for new operators. Most folks when they buy a tractor do not know that certain maneuvers will bend or break hydraulic cylinders. And certain other maneuvers make it easy to break a front axle. Etc. It is good to learn from your mistakes, even better to learn from other's mistakes!

What amazes me is all the stupid stuff I have done and never bent a cylinder. It sure seems way more common that I thought. I guess every now and then we catch a break.

Same here, I have done a lot of questionable things with the 5 FEL's I have owned and haven't broken any of them. (umm...yet:eek:) I did have to re-weld the corner of one bucket that came loose, but I proved that the bucket wasn't welded properly from the factory by inspection of the weld bead.

That was a good thread and I remember reading it. How has the bucket and weld been holding up?
