12v Fuel Transfer Pumps

Do yourself a favor now and buy an auto shutoff nozzle!

That sounds like a good idea.

This is my 50gal setup. When it needs to be refilled, I pick it up with my forks and load it in my truck. I'd guess it at around 500lbs.
I use less than 50gal per year.

I like your setup and idea.

Educate me please.

Do you seal the hose fittings with tape or anything else?

I don't know if I'm qualified to educate anyone, but here goes.

I generally avoid teflon tape. I have a fear (possibly unfounded) of it getting into places it shouldn't be., pumps etc.

Instead of tape I use RectorSeal #5, with which I have had good results.

My property isn't exactly flat, and I was concerned about the tank getting jostled and falling off the forks.
That is why there is an additional cross piece on the bottom of the pallet. With the forks captured in between, I felt that it would be less likely that the tank could tip over while I was moving it. I also assembled the pallet with screws, rather than nails.

The filter is a combo water/particulate type with a cast iron base, rather than an aluminum base. Hopefully stronger. Necessary? I don't know.

If the filter clogs with water/dirt, the flow will slow down indicating that it's time to change the filter. I opted for a spin on filter rather than the see through type because I felt it was less susceptible to damage. If the tank was stationary, it wouldn't have been a concern.

I decided to replace the battery in my truck since it was 7yrs old and use the old one for my fuel system. It was working fine in the truck when I removed it.
I have a battery maintainer/ charger and a volt meter hooked up, (mostly because I already had them) so I know the condition of charge.

I helped a friend of mine with a similar rig.
His has a 100gal tank, and the pallet sits on a dolly, so it can be easily moved around his shop. The dolly stays behind when the tank goes in the truck. ( don't need that rolling around)
If I had a cement floor, I would also have wheels under my tank, but since they don't roll too good on gravel..........

The tank came from TSC, and the pump from Rural King.

As mentioned, an automatic nozzle would be an improvement.

BTW the yardstick hanging on the wall is my fuel gauge. 2 1/2 gal. per inch. Very hi tech!

I hope that helps.

Best, Bill

Did you use stainless or galvanized fittings to connect everything? My understanding is galvanized steel and diesel fuel is a no-no.

I used galvanized fittings. That is what was supplied in the filter kit from Fill-Rite, who made the pump. All the galv. fittings are before the filter, if that matters.
I have never heard of a problem with galv. fittings, funnels, etc. and diesel fuel, but there are lots of things that I know nothing about.
It certainly wouldn't hurt to use stainless, other than cost.

Maybe someone else will comment on the galvanized/diesel thing. I'd like to know if it's a problem.

I just noticed in one of your earlier posts, you posted a photo of your Fill-Rite pump. The street ell coming out of the pump body appears to be galvanized. Can you verify that?

Here is a link to what I did. Still working on the pallet connection. I got some used aluminum angle that I will notch and bend to keep the barrel from slipping on the pallet. Ill use strap tie down to secure. I made to take the pump of for transport (all lines can be capped) and by using the pallet I can lift it out of the truck bed easily. I am considering adding big casters under the unit. Are the TSC ones OK?. Ill fill it when we get winter fuel in later this fall.
