What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

In Quebec, they don't have that problem. Right turns on a red light are simply illegal. Got stopped by a cop in Montreal once for doing it, but he let me go with a warning once he saw that my drivers license was an Ontario drivers license.

That used to be the case in Dallas. I wouldn't swear to it, but I believe it was about 1972 when it became legal.

Here, if you fail to use an opportunity to go right on red during your driver's exam, you fail the test... You must come to a complete stop and signal before proceeding or you fail the exam.

Never heard of that before. As Mossroad said, it's permitted, not required. And some people are just afraid to do it any time.

Here most right turns have a yield sign so no stop required, but that also means you have to yield to opposing left turning traffic. Then there's the intersections where there is no yield sign so you must stop before turn. These are the worst - cars behind don't expect you to stop an opposing left traffic assumes you will.

I was in MA when they finally passed right on red in the early 80s. Right before it went into effect DOT crews installed "No Right on Red" signs at practically every intersection in the Boston area.

We have one intersection in the downtown area of my nearest town that actually allows 'left turn on red'. It is the intersection of two one-way streets where left and straight are the predominate choices. From the far left lane you can make a left into the left lane of the cross street during a red light.

DO you have signs that say "permitted". Or just nothing at all?

Would be hard to use that logic that its just "permitted" but not "required" if no signage. And I could see one getting cited for impeding the traffic flow.

Would be like stopping at a stop sign and then NEVER going.....because there is no sign that says its okay to go after you have stopped right?

We don't have those signs. Just signs forbidding it if it isn't permitted. If it ain't posted, it's okay. So cannot use that logic here

We don't have those singes either but they aren't needed. The driver's manual is specifc to the point. ONe can make a right on red any place EXCEPT where there is a sign prohibiiting it.

Here one can make a left turn from a two way onto a one-way after a stop.

Doing that will incite road rage in half of the population. Purposely trying to incite road rage in people is very dangerous and not too wise.

Some people consider it a sport.

Right on red is not required in daily driving, but failure to make use of the opportunity during the exam is generally a failure of the exam.

Yes, you can use that logic there. That's the law.

When the law first started, many years ago, we were only permitted to turn right on red at intersections that had signs that said, Right turn on red permitted after stop. If there was no sign, it was illegal to turn right on red. Then, after many years of that, they finally realized there were far more intersections where it was safe to turn right on red than not safe. So, they changed the law so that now its legal to turn right on red after stop at all intersections, unless there's a sign saying NO TURN ON RED.
