I was at a huge tractor show this last summer...

Heard the ambulance/siren going off, and heard later a guy started his tractor standing along side of it, it ran him over, never heard how bad it ended up being though...

I frequently stand beside the tractor, press the clutch pedal with one hand and reach the key with the other.

One of these days, the clutch 'safety' switch is going away.

Me too... from the ground regularly but I have HST for FWIW... and Chucky is not a clown. He is a real world guy that works hard, builds good stuff, and puts out great videos with some style, that help others learn. DF, I suggest you do your homework before prejudging him and the rest of us clowns.

Love his troubleshooting skills. Hack and slice and unplug most of the harness. What a joke, but par for the course with lanse. Only made it to the 8min mark before turning it off

Actually once you get past the hacking, his review of the tractor and his experience with Mahindra was pretty good.

Typical tractor accident; man starts tractor in gear while standing on ground; tractor runs over and kills man.A very bad practice fraught with peril. Tractor operating 101. That's why those stupid safety switches are everywhere.

This particular case looks pretty bad on Mahindra though.

I looked at a Mahindra for 5 seconds to decide I didn't want one in the size I was seeking. Some of their other models are more appealing to me. I will look again when I am in the market.

Looks like another dissatisfied Mahindra tractor owner and customer service seems to be the biggest issue. I watched some of Chucks videos before, he has a you might say a colorful way of telling a story. I like the way the safety start switch works on my L3400dt, simple set up, has to be in neutral to start.

Yeah, me too! Those "safety features" are for the office type that are a little short in the machinery experience department. And of course, the lawyers. Out of gear & brakes or "park" are reasonable enough safeties' to start a tractor, and besides, I have to put my beer down to climb up into the seat:laughing:

Lumping all "office types" into a category of not understanding mechanical/electrical princples is a mistake. Many of my office type cohorts started out on farms and I for one started out as an industrial mechanical/electrician who knows a lot about electrical interlocks and safety switchs. I would be ok to bypass some but I'm still not starting my tractor from the ground. Just me personally... doesn't make me or you an idiot it means thats not a risk I'm willing to take. Apparently some on here don't see it as a risk. Albeight maybe it is a small risk but it is a risk. Tractors will run over you.

I have bypassed interlocks before on things in a factory (younger dumber) and it often does not go well. As for the guy in the video (couldn't watch more than 5 minutes) he seemed like the very reason they call the dash panel lights "idiot lights".

True enough certain tractors pose more risk starting from the ground than others depending on their transmission I would think.

I'd rather pay $300 for a service call and have a un-hacked up tractor (plus I'd be making money, not videos)... Or I would've tested the switches before going all crazy with the wire cutters. These are hard enough to work on and when you buy a used tractor with spliced wires and snipped safety switches it makes it even harder to fix right.
