There are a few 2009 demos near me with 19 to 50 hours on them. FEL equipped selling for $25,800. Any suggestions as to what I should offer? Another Canadian said he had his delivered with FEL for $22.5? Is there anything in particular to look for, say between 3 nearly identical tractors? (if anything has been problematic during break-in)?

I have seen 15 or 20 go through Auctiontime and sell for $21K -$23K new with FEL without FEL about $4K less. Those machine were $35K when they were fresh on the lot.

Managed to get mine for $23, w. FEL from 3rd party. Local dealer will support duration of warranty, starting with a PDI and software upgrade. Looked at the CNH parts website - and while all the chromey kits are listed - I did not see the canopy in there - just a canopy conversion kit. Does anyone know what the canopies go for?

Hello everyone,

I`m new here to this forum so sorry about bringing up an old discussion. I signed on to this site as it`s the only place that Google takes me to while doing a search on the 8N`s
and CVT transmission`s. There`s not much out there about the CVT`s in compact tractor`s which is very surprising considering the timeframe that these have been out on the market.

I was wondering if the member`s that own of these could respond with what they have to say about performance especially if you do loader work with it. I regretfully purchased one of these
about a month ago and only had it for a couple days before it headed off to the dealer`s. It`s a long story that I don`t want to bore you with but let`s just say I`m disappointed with
mine at least for the time being.

I am happy with mine. Mine does not have a loader, I use it for mowing. The only issue I have had was that the instrument panel quit working last month. The tractor would start but not keep running. Dealer found a relay bad so it was not expensive to fix.

Long story? We got time. I am curious about the issues you were having.

Thanks Randy, I did find many of your positive post`s in regards to your 8N while doing some research prior to my purchase.

Long story? We got time. I am curious about the issues you were having.

Well I purchased a barely used 2009 8N with only 35 hrs for short money that of which included a complete new still in box rear hyd remote kit, all paperwork, manuals, PIP reports for the updates that were issued from New Holland and completed by the previous owners local NH dealership so I thought what could go wrong, right? The tractor was mint not even a scratch on the bucket because the seller, from what the dealer had told me, only used it lightly around his multi acre horse ranch and wanted to trade it in to upgrade to a larger CVT machine. So I make the short drive out ( 3hrs) to have a look and test drive make sure everything works at the dealership it was being consigned at, things seemed to work fine everything on the loader functioned like new, fluids looked good, this thing looked like it came off the showroom floor! Looks like he only used the 3 point/PTO I presume to mow with. I knew there was a learning curve going from a Boomer 3045 Hydro that I was barrowing from my friend when I decided it was time to get my own and this was the one and the long search was over. Let me say I was hesitant on the CVT but gave it a chance considering the other dealers I was speaking with were "praising" this tractor and the ease of the CVT trans. So I load it up bring it home and the next day put it to some light work using the loader backfilling my culvert project I had going at the time. I quickly realized that I need to stop and grab the op manual and read it over so I can make my changes to the settings of the reactivity because it seemed like going in to the dirt pile it would not really have the power to dig in to get a full bucket. I spent some time going through the manual and changing some of the settings on the dash and trying it out and figured that the anti stall switch was my problem not allowing to get a full bucket because the tractor sensed extra torque and switched trans to neutral. I don`t like that feature but glad I can switch that off and leave it off! The next few days went ok but started to realize something else was going wrong with this thing and It was not the programing of the settings it seemed like the trans was slipping? put it in rev and it would not move at times no matter how I feathered the motion pedal, made a couple phone calls to the dealership in OH and spoke with one of the service techs and made a decision that the machine was sitting for such a long time it may be a good idea to change the HYD fluid and all 3 filters for fear there may be water/condensation in the trans. Did all that and changed the engine oil while I was at it, mind you this thing has now maybe 40hrs on it still was just not right.
I found within this site someone post a Calibration sequence for a new Holland CVT trans that I printed out and tried it on my machine a couple of times, first time it did not complete the process but was successful the second time, the codes were not exactly the same as the sheet stated but on my display it showed it had accepted the CAL process. I thought I was all set, tried it out some more and it was getting worse, much worse at times it happens, the tractor just won`t move in For/Rev no matter what combination of switch`s Anti Stall/Reactivity whatever the settings I set up on the dash etc. At this point I just stopped and made a few more phone calls to the dealership in OH and outside of me taking it there I chose to take it to my NH dealer here to see if there were some error codes that can help diagnose the problem. Well that`s when more frustration`s started I left the tractor with them because after clearing out the old error codes un-related to my issue`s with the trans it still had no power and sometimes will not move. Like I mentioned that`s where my frustration`s started because it has been almost 2 weeks of the service dept emailing NH for an Assist and waiting for a response on the next step to diagnose all the components such as solenoids/pressure switches etc etc etc.
So here I was yesterday and finally get a call after a few days of silence from the dealer stating that NH returned another Assist request and now wants them to remove the clutch and inspect........ Really?? Well I guess this is no small task and heavy on the wallet so I made a call to a different dealer of which I called before making the purchase of this 8N and he stated that he now remembers on some of the earlier serial #`d machines NH had an issue with the friction plates delaminating within the clutch. Need I say anymore the machine has only 45 hrs and is 7 years old..... S.O.L

see long story,

Dave

Don't know what, if any kind of warranty you got with consignment deal, but I'd be pressuring new Holland on this. 45 hours and no signs of abuse. Especially if the deal about the friction plates is true and that is indeed the problem. A know issue and a mechanical defect....IMO new Holland should make it right.

Unfortunately I did not get a warranty from the dealer in OH and to be honest, it is a used tractor and listed/sold in that way with no offering of one. I have been in contact with them since the start and would have taken the tractor back to them for the initial error code check if they were not 3hrs away, however they are willing to give me a fraction of what it`s going to cost me to get the repairs done so they are trying to help but they would not even try to get this covered by NH under Mfg defect/Warranty because of the age and not being a NH dealer rather a Case IH dealer? I found that odd being case IH and NH are one in the same?

Now, the dealer where it`s currently at for the last couple weeks had a NH field service rep. stop by and suggest some things to try but to no avail hence the latest Assist in from NH saying to inspect the For/Rev clutch. That`s not a small job let alone the quote I received to do it so that`s when I made the call to the dealer in PA that "praised" the 8N
remembered about the clutch, but he can`t help out but I did relay that info to the dealer here and asked for him to call NH stating that but they won`t touch it, not even help with just covering the part`s because of the age and GET THIS ---- "It`s not in their budget" is what the dealer told me.

So I guess if I may ask, what`s a person to do now with no real way of contacting New Holland outside of relying on the dealer to be honest that he did in fact press the issue?

I'd call a regional rep and plead your case. I don't buy the age argument. This ain't a 1951 8n. It's only a 7 year old machine which is very young in tractor years. And still being under 50 hours.....

Sounds like a mfg/defect issue. I would think NH would want to work WITH you to find out just what part of their CVT failed.
