Well, Time for the latest installment...
Last Tues I primed it, and those pictures are above. Wed I painted it red. Started at 1PM, finished about 5:30 by the light of the tractor... It's Rustoleum Sunrise Red, so I can buy rattle cans to touch it up, or to make changes. :)

This weekend I put the axles under it, welded jacks on the front, and got a bunch of the wiring work done.
Project will be on hold until after Thanksgiving... I have a power steering hose to replace on my truck, a fuel line to replace on the wife's truck, and then we are heading to Utah for four days of camping and hiking!

Very nice trailer build.
What are you going to use for the deck? Metal or wood.

Chris, love the color, looking good!!!! Painting something like that is extremely time consuming, LOT of surface area and most of it hard to get to. :)

Thanks! I did spend a lot of time crawling/laying under it... Not real fun, but it's done. :)

I'll use regular yellow pine. Metal decks too slick, and this way I can screw or nail cribbing to it if needed.
Living out here, virtually in the desert, if you can keep the sun from destroying it, wood lasts just about forever. My plan is to treat it with Thompson's WaterSeal, in Coastal Gray. Should look nice, and last 15 years or more.

I am not looking forward to drilling 300 holes for the deck screws...

I replaced a deck on a trailer and used screws that drill their own holes thru the wood and metal. One step process.

They were Midwest Fastener brand, Self-Drilling Screws, 1/4x2-1/2".

Lowes has the self drilling screws for trailer decking. The problem with pine decking in the southwest is the same as everywhere else, it gets torn up easily. Next time I change my deck I am thinking about Poplar if I can find it in a construction grade.

Nice paint job.

I don't think the self drilling screws are going to like going through the 4.1# channel I used... I thought they really only work well in material 1/8" thick or less. My crosses are quite a bit thicker than that where the screws will go.

When I decked my trailer, I used self tappers. Not to be confused with self drillers.

You still need a pilot hole. Then the impact driver and T-40 bit made quick work.

Around here, white oak, rough sawn is what gets used on equipment trailers. Cost about the same as treated pine, but holds up better.

Yeah, possibly. I'm not sure of the dimensions of the steel I was working with.

You may be correct about the description "self tappers" as it has been a few years since I purchased them. The drill bit section is a tap size and these are appropriate for the OP's needs. I have used them on 5.4 lb. channel with out problems.

I would very much prefer the white oak boards but shipping to New Mexico would be a problem.
