Time for some more pics!!
I got the wiring done last weekend. It's all run in PVC electrical conduit, so it can't get snagged and ripped off, hopefully...

I switched my Goodyear G614's to the new wheels too. Well, after trying to dismount one by hand and failing, I took them to a tire shop and tossed them $40 to do it, actually. I really need a tire machine. :) I didn't have them air them up at all, so when I got them back to the shop, I poured 6oz of 28g airsoft pellets into each tire, and then aired them up. I've so far had good luck with the airsoft BB's to balance the tires on my wife's Comanche pickup, and not so good luck with weights eventually going out of balance, so figured I'd give it a try on the trailer too. :)

With all lights working, I headed out Wed to the lumber yard and picked up the decking. $260 worth of the crappiest pine (well, Doug Fir, actually) I've ever seen, and that's after we sorted the pile for good boards. Still cheaper than HD or Lowes, and it's just going to get beat up on my trailer, so it'll do. I've been treating it in the shop, eight boards at a time, with Thompson's Water Seal Solid. I wanted Gray, but you have to order and buy 4 gallons at a time. I only need one gallon, so it gets cedar, which is the lightest color I could get locally. :)

I spent Friday evening and Saturday all day decking the trailer so we could use it today to haul the tractor up to our property in CO and get started on the driveway. Got all but the center and outside boards on, but that was enough to use it today. Here it is this morning, loaded up for the trip. Might not be quite legal yet, but I plan to fix that Monday right after lunch. :)

It towed wonderfully. No shaking or bucking, no trouble at all, really.

This will hopefully be our view by the end of next summer... Looking East at the La Plata Mtns.

And since this is a tractor forum, I'll add that the MF did great at getting our driveway roughed (really rough!) in. We could get a truck up to the house site now if we wanted. I was worried that the R4's would be horrendous, but it crawled around just fine. :)

Glad to see the trailer just about completely done. Great job on the build. Also, beautiful view at your future house site.

Awesome build. I wish I had the time for stuff like that.

I would not be able to get away with the wiring the way you have it on the axles. The gravel roads around here would beat that wire off in no time. What I do is run the wire down the springs and weld a deflector plate on the brake backing plate. I also use -40 degree extension cord for the wiring. At least then if a rock does hit the wire it doesn't shatter in the cold.

Nice looking trailer!

Really nice build and the site is great. I bet the wind blows through there though.

I don't think the self drilling screws are going to like going through the 4.1# channel I used... I thought they really only work well in material 1/8" thick or less. My crosses are quite a bit thicker than that where the screws will go.

self drillers work in light gauge folded tin like the factory made trailers they sell here in Europe. And good quality ones work in 3 to 4mm cold rolled steel, but i bought cheap self tappers. drill a 5mm hole and tap, and dont push like crazy when the drill tip of a self driller is burnt before its through the channel flange...

For hardwood, there are self drillers with wings underneath the head, that dig a small countersunk hole before breaking off (because the screw part is in the metal before these wings touch the wood), so you get the heads neat and flush with the planks. On soft wood or Phenol coated plywood, you better use selfdrillers without wings or the heads dig too deep.

It saved me a lot of time over my last home project with 6mm mushroom head bolts, because i didnt have to crawl under the bed to put a washer and bolt on them in the shadow. Also, when the selftapper grips, it grips. No worry about drilling a hole and then finding out its so close to the vertical C channel flange that you cant get a nut on...

By the way, when reading on, i saw you're already done.. Nice job !!
I understand why you outsourced the vertical welding of the gooseneck, vertical welds are the most tricky ones. I have enough confidence in my welding to do it myself, even though there are people out there with far greater skills than me. (the vertical stack welding for example, i'd rather avoid doing that and make multiple smaller beads so gravity doesnt take control of my melt puddle, because its one of the hardest weld positions, apart from welding horizontally above your head... ;)

I've used bb's in oversized Jeep tires for years. Work great.

Very nice trailer!!!! You should "dream up" an exclusive brand name and decal the trailer. We could have a contest on this thread for name suggestions? How bout LLD Trailers (low low deck). :)

If it gets a sticker, it'll be "Way Out Engineering", which is my engineering consulting business name. :)

Lasr time I was up your way I took my 110tlb to Durango on my Big Tex trailer. My trailer has a low floor which I prefer to keep the COG low. For a gooseneck your trailer looks to be real good for the mountains you will be driving through. I can appreciate the interest in the low deck and think you will be very happy with your build.
